OK, use the down mix function on your blue ray player. this will decode for your receiver. the down mix feature should be located in the audio options on the blue ray menu screen.

You can set the receiver to any source that uses a optical connection. Then make sure that whatever you select whether it be CD/DVD you also have the source connection set to optical too on the receiver setup menu.
That being said, after that is done you will need to set up the computer to output audio. That usually just involves changing the output mode on the computer and adjusting the levels...open the Acer audio managment application, choose the audio output mode to stereo or dolby digital and turn everything up on the computers level controls. Then, when you open whatever software you're going to use to play your discs you may also have to adjust the volume level there as well.

SOURCE: Re: Yamaha RX V670 Receiver Powering Off

I have found there are capacitors failing through the output circuit. Look for 10, 33, 47, etc.. microfarads. In that range. I charge typicaly 150 to $200 with parts on something like this. Larry's Electronics ledstiles@hotmail.com

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

I cannot figure out how to get sound through my Yamaha RX-V361 from my LG 37CS56 hdtv

Are you using any kind of Decoder or Set Top box to receive your TV signal?
If so you can connect the RCA OUTPUT from your cable or satellite decoder, to the Yamaha inputs. See the picture I have attached for you.
Then when you want to hear the sound from there, select DTV /CBL input on your remote control of the Yamaha receiver.

Or you can locate the SOUND or AV OUTPUT (Red and white RCA connection) at the back of you TV, and connect the cables from there to your Yamaha receiver.9_9_2012_6_50_32_pm.jpg

I have hooked up my dish, yamaha receiver, CD player, blueray player and have surround sound for everything but the TV, Help!

Usually, unless the TV show is being broadcast itself in surround sound, the surround decoder in the receiver will default to front only sound on TV shows. When a TV show says that it is in surround sound, the receiver will decode it. I think the Law and Order series in broadcast in surround.
Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

I have a yamaha home theater and the front screen says decoder off what does that mean?

The Yamaha is not getting a PCM (digital surround sound) audio stream. This happens when I turn off the cable box. It also happens when I plug the HDMI output to a projector or monitor that is not HDCP compliant. I can't use an HDMI to DVI adapter.

RX-V465 Yamaha Reciver we can get picture but no sound w/PS3

Check HDMI Sound settings:
Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV).
Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.

You should always connect with HDMI when using and decoding HD sound formats. If you use the normal digital option it will use PCM. Also check if your source is set to HD formats via HDMI connections.

Help setting up Yamaha RX-V461

Typically, only stereo inputs exist on any comsumer-grade receiver, and the actual decoding to 3, 4, 5, 6, and even 7.1 is done internal in the receiver. When a "placement" signal is detected by the receiver, the sound is routed to the correct speaker. Please refer to a user manual

it does not have a battery but a large capacity capacitor that works like a battery. that could be the trouble but rarely happens on new units. the battery is located in the display board near the FL display. odl type uses like a button battery but newer model is just like an ordinary capacitor
