Question about HP DesignJet 120nr InkJet Printer

8 Answers

I just replace new printheads on the HP designjet 120. I get the message printhead is faulty for five out of six printheads. They also flash on the screen. I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it.

My Designjet 120 report faulty printhead for Black, Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Light Magenta. The printheads are flashing on the screen. The strange thing is Light Cyan does NOT flash. There is NO report of faulty printhead for Light Cyan. I don't know what is wrong with the other five printheads. By the way, the printheads are all brand new and so is the ink cartridges. I just replace them.
One more thing, when I put back the old printheads they work OK. So I don't know why the printer does not recognize the brand new printheads.

I replaced six printheads for my Designjet 120 with six brand new printheads. However, I got the "faulty printheads" message and the printheads keep flashing on the screen. I don't know how to fix it, if anyone know please help.
By the way, I try using the old printheads again and they worked OK.

The printhead error could be caused by dirty contacts on the flex connectors on the carriage assembly. Remove it, clean it very well and install it carefully.

The print-head sensor has failed from the sounds of it. I assume you have tried resetting the printer by unplugging it and letting it sit a good 30 seconds, then replugging it? Still showing bad? Unfortunately the printer at that point needs to be repaired or replaced :(.

Thanks
Tim

Follow these steps to fix the problem :
1. clean the print head and the entire head area around the Yellow and Magenta heads.

2. pull out the Print Head, turned it upside down and then take out the tiny round plug with a push-pin and insert about 5-6 mil of ink.

after that try to print and see if it helps.

If it doesn't replace the print head.

Hi!
I'm just wondering! Have you taken off the protective plastic strip that is wrap in the printhead section and the contact surface of the ink cartridges. Have you used the HP 11 and HP 84 type of cartridges that is designed for HP Design jet 120. Better check first, because as you mentioned all the cartridges that flashing with errors are new ones.

Remove the printheads and follow installation steps to install them making sure they click/sit properly. Make sure there are no ink stains on the gold plated metal contact on the cartridge and on the seating on the printer. if there are ink stains clean with HP Interconnector Wiper and reseat the printhead properly.

The printheads may be faulty or fake. Return the faulty printheads and buy from an authorized HP reseller/distributor.

Hi! Try unplugging the printer from power source then press hold the power button for 10secs. while unplugged. This should reset the system and may resolve the problem. Plug the printer, turn it on and see how it goes.

Try the following troubleshooting measure. Maybe the model is different, but for me (as per my experiences) these two have helped the most.
1. Hp printer "Printhead faulty"

2. Hp printer "printhead faulty" _ hp diagnosing printhead faulty.

[this is not a solution, but only an assistance, sharing my views through experiences, if it doesn't help, please seek further help from other experts, these are the only tips and hints that I know of about this issue]

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

How do i fix a faulty printerhead for the hp designjet 110plus

are you getting a message failure? fix the printhead how? if the printhead is faulty then you need to replace it. if this does not resolve the issue then you may have a problem with the carriage assembly. clean the contacts of the printhead and the carriage assembly with a damp, lint free cloth (old t shirt works good and water) if this does not help, than your problem is with your carriage assembly, trailing cable, main pca. let me know if this helps, if not than i can help you further

Printheads are available everywhere, you replace them your self. Machine will usually indicate just one bad print head at a time.

The HP Designjet 1055cm has 4 ink cartridges, 4 printheads and 4 printhead cleaners. My question is: Will the plotter still work properly if I just install the black ink cartridge along with the printhead...

I doubt it. When the printer powers up, it checks to make sure that all modules are in place and functional. If one is missing, you'll get an error message.
