Question about Samsung DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

I just bought a samsung DVD-R155, and connected my vcr to this unit through the front av jacks. I have copied about 8 movies. Last night I tried to watch one on my computer, and it does not work, out of the 10 I copied, 2 have problems on my computer, but not on 2 other dvd players. I opened the files on the dvd and found the the 2 that do not work have 3 files on them, the ones the work fine on my computer have only 1. It appears to me that the finalization process is not working. any ideas, before i call samsung? Thanks. John

Go to samsung.com and search for your model DVD-R155 and read the FAQ section. Someone has posted this question and the response is YES you can copy VHS files. I had one experience trying to do this and had the same experience but was only trying to see if I could. I'm thinking that possibly the answer is to enter the MENU and de-select automatically create chapters. I don't think there is anything wrong with your recorder.

Re v5500 . . . can i copy a movie from the vcr onto a dvd with this model???

You cannot transfer VHS to DVD on this model unit by itself. You can, however, connect the AV outputs of this unit (as a VCR) to the respective AV inputs of a separate DVD recorder - using yellow-white-red RCA cables - as long as the source tapes are not copy protected, and the appropriate disc formats for the DVD recorder are used.

Try these steps:

Locate the output jacks DVD player. Sometimes they are standard female RCA A/V jacks, like those found on the front of many VCRs. Others are more tricky, having a small jack that looks like a stereo headphones plug. These camcorders require a special cord that converts a 1/8" stereo signal into RCA A/V male plugs.
  1. Using the proper cord, connect your PLAYER to the VCR's RCA A/V input jacks, usually found on the front or back of your VCR.
  2. Turn on your VCR and TV, so you can see the input from the camcorder. You might have to select "Input 1/2", "Line 1/2", or "VIDEO" depending on your VCR model. You should now see whatever is on your camcorder displayed on your television.
  3. Press "Record" on your VCR, then press "Play" on your camcorder. That's it!

I can't record a DVD from VCR. I tried hooking straight to front av jacks,no luck. I have dish network it's set on channel 25,video 1 on the tv. No problem recording from dish, just can't get it to record...

You need to select front AV as you video source on the DVD recorder if using the front AV phono connectors. Make sure the lead you use from the VCR is working y connecting the AV leads directly to your TV if possible.

Store bought tapes with movie release have a copy guard protector imprinted in the tape preventing successful dubbing, especially the more recent movies.
