"refresh database" when i plugged my sansa 6GB into my schools Vista computer, and now it says "refresh database" and only gets to loading about 1/8 of the bar until the player dies again. i've tried leaving it on my computer overnight, but it still loads to the 1/8 bar and then freezes! that do i do!!!??? I added a 2GB little chip in the side. Now when i turn it on i see this (refresh database). It loads all the way up. My music plays, but how do i stop this? And when i sync with the computer it doesnt seem to recognize i added the chip. It still shows a total of 3.74.

On the intro screen it freezez and eventually goes to the next screen and says refreshing database but it dosent refresh

This seems to happen when the database gets corrupted.

1. Turn off the player.

2. Plug the usb cable to the computer, don't plug it to the player.

3. Slide the lock switch to the right, you will see an orange strip.

4. Hold the menu button to start the player. Don't release it yet. Wait until a shutdown message appears and the player goes off again.

5. Plug the usb cable to the player end. The player should go on again. The player should mount as a disk on your computer. Find this disk and back up its contents.

6. Format the player, as explained elsewhere.

7. Disconnect the usb cable. This time the database should refresh properly. Once this is done, slide the the lock switch to the left and turn off the player.

8. Turn the player back on. It should work, but you will have to load your stuff again.

9. Redo steps 1 to 5, except that now should copy your music, videos, etc, back into the player.

10. Repeat step 7.

11. Turn the player back on. It should work again.

STEP 1 – Reset the device
  1. Press the Power button and hold it for approximately 10 seconds.
  2. Release the Power button once the device is powered down.
  3. Turn the device back on.
STEP 2 – Download and Install the Sansa Firmware Updater

If that does not fix it, please post a comment with an update to your problem.

(e260R) Refresh Database eternal loop

Turn it on into recovery mode (Hold + Record Button + Power)
Connect to computer (You should detect a 16MB drive)
Make an empty text file inside the 16MB Drive and rename it to "sansa.fmt"
Unplug the Sansa. You should see now a "Formatting..." on the Sansa's screen.
Sansa fixed!

Refresh database

Get the recovery tool from Sandisk Support downloads. Put it in a file you can easily find.
plug in the Sansa, once it turns on, hold the power button until it turns off then switch the hold switch at the top edge of the player to hold (showing orange) and then hold the "Record" button on the side until the player turns on with a black screen, saying it is in recovery mode.
Some people have said they had to hold both "Power" and "Record" to make it work.
Run the recovery tool software and you should be running again.

Screen remains on Refresh Database everytime I turn it on.

I've run into this also. a few options.. 1) Use the Sansa Updater software to upgrade firmware. (available on Sandisk website) 2) Sometimes adding a couple new songs back wakes it up.

My sansa is stuck on refresh database

Turn it to recovery mode by putting it on hold, while off, and holding the record button along with power until it go's into a screen with a black background and white text. Then update it with the updater. You can get it here: http://sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 NOTE: Updater will NOT work on windows vista. Good luck and i hope this fixes it! Have a nice day!
