Is this not turning on at all? I mean - no sound, no spinning fan, no LED's or anythign when you try to turn on?

If so - it could be one of hundreds of causes, common is mosfet IC, but either way it needs looking at by a technician to ascertain the fault, and if it is motherboard issue then you'l need a specialist repair centre that can repair motherboard faults. Dont be scared the good ones run a no fix no fee policy, and usual price for a fix is £55. If you need pointing to a reputable company let me know.

How do i make an older PC run faster?

Hello,

I suggest that you reinstall the operating system of that computer and upgrade the Memory stick and hard drive. However you have to make sure that the computer can handle the upgrades. What is the manufacturer of the computer?

I have a Compaq that came with this board and a celeron 1.8 or 2.0 I believe. The fastest P4 that will run is a Intel Northwood 2.8 Ghtz 400 FSB nothing ELSE! Northwood 2.8 is the fastest 400 FSB, the boards chipset won't run anything faster than 400 FSB. Mine is running, Win 7 the Northwood P4 2.8 with 2 gigs ram, 160 gig HD and a 256 video card for over 5 years (minus win 7, had XP before with no issues. Good for light gaming, web surfing and MS office! Add a Zotac 512 MB PCI or Sparkle Video card and you can handle most more medium gaiming out today! My cards have HDMI and DVI output. I highly recommend it!

Windows XP needs at least 1 GB of RAM to function reasonably and for best performance, go to 2 GB. But that might not be the main problem. You really need to install the system drivers to make the O/S work with the hardware. Then run the command MSCONFIG from the command line and click the startup tab to see what might be running in the background. Uncheck the things you don't need.

I currently have just 256mps of memory ram on my dell dimension 2400. i want to upgrade. my manual says the maxium is 1024 mbs. can i install 1gb of ram or should i get 512 mbs? i have windows xp os. thank...

1024 is 1 gig of ram. Some older motherboards require you to put in ram in pairs but I don't think your system is one of those but if you have manual or can download manual you should check to be sure. If you don't need a pair then yes you can remove the 256 meg stick and add a 1 gig stick or you can put in 2 512 meg sticks. Should run a lot better as windows recommends at least 512 megs of ram.
