Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

My linksys just randomly stops working. I will have full signal and then it will disappear. When I try to get back on the network, it says there was an error joining. It shows up in my list of wireless networks, but won't allow me to get on. Or it will give me flash final and then disappear again.

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox).
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop/desktop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router and the gaming site for the proper ports for play.
You may just have lost connectivity with the server. Check your QOS ( Quality of Service ) in the router settings to assure your wireless connectivity. Wireless gaming console are notorious for dropping connection. You also need to improve your antenna range. There are some DIY antenna templates on line if you do a Google search you will find a lot of them that will give you 20/30% gain.
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Linksys router unidentified network....receiving full signals but showing unidentified network ...i hv checked SSID and key both are correctly entered....

Try resetting the router and then configure it again.
To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Wireless network has disappeared.

After resetting it (pressing that inset button with a paperclip or pencil), try connecting to it with a wire (cat5 network patch cable). Login with the default of no username and "admin" password. If that doesn't work, it hasn't been reset yet (unless the manual tells you otherwise). Make sure the wireless is enabled AND that the SSID is set to broadcast, not remain hidden.

Linksys WRT54GX4 loses internet connection

Not a problem, you have to consider maybe other devices and or networks competing/interferring with your network. If you know how to enter the Linksys router menu I would 1. change the frequency the router operates on 2. change the channel the router will use 3. change the default password to something else besides the default.

All of the settings for your router out of the box are at default, wonder how many other people are running the same thing in your neighborhood? I always change from the default, you may also be receiving interference from devices using the same freq/channel as your router. Changing these will eliminate those possibilities.

Don't forget to encrypt your network, that is most important.

I would turn your itouch on and tap the top bar where the battery and signal show.
a screen will pop down and show your wireless connection. tap it ans check your settings.
make sure you renew lease on your wireless and use the wep code which is on the label of your wireless router.
you should have signal now

good luck

Router randomly stops sending out wireless signal

You may be getting interference from other routers in your area.
Check to see what channels the other routers are broadcasting in your area, change it to a channel that is not being used.
The location of the router could affect the signal strength, move the router away from concrete reinforced walls etc, and or move the router to a higher position in a clear space.

Cannot connect to wireless network

I agree with JonwVBFL, it sounds like the DHCP server is not enabled on the router. You can enable this using the administrative web interface on the router (http://192.168.1.1). The default username is admin with a blank password or vice versa.

No signal on my KG800 - randomly disappeared

This is generic problem of network and it occures due to defectice ICs in phone's mother board. There is Power Amplifier IC which acts for stable radio frequency receiving power amplification, other one is radio frequency processor IC inside which works for processing RF signals for generating intermediate frequency. One or both parts may get affected due to many reason but the solution can only be given by examining it physicaly. If you are enough skilled and can do something then open the phone and after applying paste on that both ICs rehot it with hot airgun and it will be OK.

Missing SSID

well more then likely someone reset your router. now securing it again will depend on the model but typically from the internet explorer window type in the address bar 192.168.1.1 it will prompt you for a username and password username by default is "admin" and leave password field blank and click ok. this is for most models.(if you are not able to access this you are going to need to find the manual or get then model # and goto linksys.com to find the default password for that model"
from here click on "wireless" at the top then click on "wireless security" here you can choose the security mode either wep or wpa enter your encryption key click save settings and now your router is protected again.
If you still are having problems write back the the model # and I or someone else will be glad to help you.
