If you have freezing all the way back to your compressor, only a couple problems will cause this. Lack of airflow or a slower than normal fan speed. Check the filter. If it is clocked, your limiting your airflow across the coil. Then, if it's clean, look at the back of the coil where the air from the fan enters it. That is usually the problem. When you have a wet coil and a 35% rated filter, you are pushing dust into a wet coil and it usually sticks and looks like a lint screen. You might need to wash it out, but do so VERY carefully. Your fan motor is not rated to get wet. You might need to have an HVAC company come out and pull apart the plenum to be able to get to it to clean it. The only only other problem it could be is a slower than normal fan speed. If that's the case, I would recommend having an HVAC company come out to verify the problem.

Frozen compressor

A frozen compressor can be caused by several things. One cause could be partial loss of refrigerant or being over charged by someone adding to the factory charge. Another cause for a frozen compressor might be poor heat transfer in the evaporator, which is where the cool air comes from. This is usually systematic of a dirty evaporator or poor air flow coming from the fan. Another cause for a frozen compressor is the system not turning off when it should. This problem is usually a result of a bad thermostat or the thermostat not turning off soon enough.

AC compressor clutch wont engage

Compressor will not run if freon charge low. If you want it to run supply direct power and ground to back of compressor. I do not recommend a home recharge as you will not be able to evacuate the moisture in the system and inject adequate amounts of oil

Compressor will cut on run a few minutes and shut off hot air

The compressor is probably going out on overload. There may be a small refrigerant leak thus making the compressor run hotter than usual. If there is not enough refrigerant in the system, the compressor will not get the refrigerant back to it to keep it cool. This is a safety feature built into the compressor to keep it from overheating and locking up. You may want to take it to your local appliance store and have it looked at. Most of the time it usually is cheaper to buy a new unit than to pay for just the labor to have them fixed.

Water dispenser in my Maytag french door refer has suddenly stopped working. We use it every day and the filter seems to be fine. It almost sounds like it is frozen. Please Help!!!

We have a hd2560 (bot 10/04), french door with inside water dispenser and it had stopped working a year ago, but started working a few months later. I couldn't figure out what happened, but suspected the water line was frozen. I later found out that the water reservoir is located behind the fruit and vegetable bins, so look there to see if the water is frozen.

Two weeks ago, our frig/compressor stopped cooling after making humming/clicking sounds for weeks. Fortunately, Maytag has a 5 yr parts & labor warranty on the compressor, so we were covered. Evidently, there are quite a few faulty compressors out there.

I believe that the compressor had been over-cooling in the past and caused the water lines/tank to freeze. This would also cause frozen produce/fruit. I would immediately contact Maytag/Whirlpool if you suspect a faulty compressor as well.

I have a york hvac system that is 5 years old. I have the thermostat set at 74 and when it turns on only the fan runs circulating the existing air in the house about 20 percent of the time. The a\c works...

It sounds to me like you have a delay on start timer on the compressor that possibly is starting to fail or someone may have adjusted the time band up on it. I myself would remove it and install a delay on break timer and a 5 minute setting would be ample time.

Hope this helps Ya

Kenmore refrigerator not cooling

You may need to clean the condenser under the refrigerator. Or you may need a new cold control. I did mean frozen as in iced up. If your coil is clear of ice as I understand then it is a different problem than a defrost problem. If your condenser has been cleaned and you still have the same problem you also want to check the compressor operation. Listen and if you hear a hum and a click at the compressor in the back it would be the compressor that has the problem.
