I purchased the device last summer and used it last fall on a high country mule deer hunt. It worked great. over the winter I used it a couple of times to check weather and it has been on the shelf in my office since last fall. Leaving today for a fishing trip in central Pa and thought I would charge it befor going last night. As soon as I pluged in the charger norad weather came on . I did not attempt to turn the device on prior to connecting the charger and norad stops when I unplug the charger. battery is at 82%. It has never been wet. Other than that sign of life when charger is pluged in it is stone dead. Thanks, Meb

Garmin 530 will not turn on. No sign of life in the device until I plug in the charger. At that time the screen lights up and norad weather starts broadcasting. I cannot adjust volume and all buttons only turn screen light on and off. Battery is at 82% and charges normally. Unit has been on a shelf in my office all winter and operated normally appx 90 days ago. Thanks for your help. Meb

Could be a problem with the memory card. Please try to remove that then power up and see if the issue is resolved. If not, it could be a problem with the internal circuitry. If this is the case, then unfortunately, there is no other go except to get the device service.

There is a glitch with this specific unit, you should try loading any software updates and then try to fully discharge the unit. If you can get it to discharge, then once you plug it in to the computer, try loading the updates which should prevent this from happening again. Let me know of any problems that you may run into while doing this and I would be glad to help all of the way until this is fixed.

good luck and please let me know if you have any further questions

A little more into the glitch, when you think the device is actually off, it's not it is said to be on and the glitch prevents all buttons from working correctly, Once completely discharged, it should start working again when plugged back in.

Hi there,

in the initial check of your problem, have you try to replace and change the battery of your device..?

It sounds like it has a short circuit. try contacting customer service to see about them repairing it if it is still under warranty. also try updating the device. here is the update site http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3515 here is the customer support site http://www8.garmin.com/support/warranty.html also if you just purchased the device within say 3 months the store where you purchased it from should replace it too

Try a hard reset of the set.

When the charger is plugged into the unit, look at the main menu screen. If the charger is working correctly, the green battery icon in the upper right-hand corner eill go out. If the charger is plugged in and there is a light lit on the charger but you see the green battery icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen on the main menu, then the unit is on battery power and the battery is not getting power from the charger. Common problem with these units are loose rear USB ports. More information can be found here:

Garmin nuvi 2555lm battery want charge

A common problem with these units are loose/broken connections on the rear USB port. There are 5 pins on this port. If the power pins are loose/broken, the unit will not be able to charge the battery. The unit will not turn on because the battery is dead. Even if you plug in the charger, there battery will not charge.

The unit will not charge the battery if it won't turn on.

While you could have a bad battery, the Nuvi 25xx series is not that old and the date code on the battery is probably from 2010 or later.

If you plug in the charger, the green battery status indicator should go away or you should see a lightning bolt appear over the battery status indicator . If you don't see a change to the battery status indicator when you plug in the charger, then this confirms that the rear USB port is broken and not applying a charge to the battery.

My rino won't charge

Two things occur to me: possible damage to socket where charger connects to unit------or no voltage from charge source to the battery

A lot of the connectors where the unit connects to power are easily damaged.

My garmin 750 gps will not turn on when plugged into power source

A dead battery will cause the unit not to turn on, but it should turn on if connected to an external power source like an AC wall charger or DC car charger.

Dead Garmin c550

had same exact problem. my unit would come on for a minute and then go black. if you take the silver ring around the face you will see the four screws to take the unit apart if you do have to replace the battery. however first try hitting the reset button on the right side of the unit. remember the cover needs to be off. i hit the reset and my unit powered on with no problems

Sounds like you both have a battery problem. I experienced a similar problem when trying to charge via the USB-cable connected to my computer.
Ended up buying an original charger (expensive) and the charging went smooth.
The car charger should in any case work fine, so probably your battery is not very healthy.

Try holding your finger on the battery symbol for about 10 sec. The unit will then switch to a technical page. There you can observe the battery and charging voltage. When I plug in my computer USB-cable, I read around 4,4V and that is not sufficient for charging my battery.
When connected to the original charger, this voltage rises to about 5V which gives a nice charge. When unplugging charger, the unit displays the battery capacity. If the charging voltage is OK, but battery capacity drops quickly after you unplug charger cable, the battery is probably bad. (Of course you have to charge is for some time) I think around 4V battery voltage give 100% capacity. 3,9V gives about 90% capacity.
This will not solve your problem, but can give you an idea about what is wrong.
Good luck.

Dead unit

My Quest2 has a short in it that drains the battery even when it is turned off. But the battery lasts normal 15 to 20 hours when fully charged and unit is on. Whenever the battery is completely dead, I have to place it on the charger for a hour or two before the unit will even start even though it is plugged plugged in. The battery can be replaced by the staff at batteries plus for under $60.00

Nuvi 200 GPS

We did not have a charger to plug in the GPS to charge, so my husband plugged it into a battery charger. I guess the battery charger was low, so it drained the unit rather than charging it. It was so low it would not come on again. I have an electric charger that adapts the car charger into AC current, so I tried that and the unit came on. Problem solved and the GPS is working again. Thanks for responding.
