Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

2 Answers

Hi I have been using my camera ,a Canon EOS digital xti for the last 3 years without any problem. Now when I use the built in flash the pictures appear dark(the flash is working and I also tried with an external flash with the same results) .All the settings have been checked and everything seems ok. When I take a picture without the flash it appears normal and clear. The seller recommended to update the firmware , but this has already been done. Do you have a solution thank you. Ray

Thank you for trying to help solve my problem. I tried what you suggested and it doesn't work. There is probably a problem with the camera I will have to send it to the company.

What you can do is to decrease the shutter speed so that if there is time delay for the flash and the shutter is can be compromised. Also if the aperture can be set accordingly the picture should turn out better.
Please try and respond. Other wise the trigger delay seems a faulty in the trigger in the semicondutor/control unit within the camera..

This site has information than you may want to read, and it's a good discussion of this problem:

Another site had some interesting suggestions that should help:
http://forums.steves-digicams.com/canon-eos-dslr/103337-poor-images-new-eos-400d-did-i-get-wrong-un.html
Sounds like your camera is probably ok, and maybe adjusting 2 or 3 stops might be the easiest thing to try.
Hope this helps!

Be aware that the built in flash does not pop up automatically in all picture modes. Try it when in the different modes (on the mode dial) and see what I mean. Does it popo up when manually opened ?, (small button on front left hand side of the viewing pentaprism/flash housing.)

My EOS 300d blank images

That problem is normally associated with having a too high shutter speed when using flash. If it happens in any mode, with or without flash you may have a shutter blind issue.

Test the camera at various shutter speeds and compare the results. If this black area is consistant across different shutter speeds, send it in for repair. It is most likely the shutter curtain not making a pass across the sensor fast enough, still obscuring the sensor when a photo was taken.

Canon 400D, Auto setting, images too dark

Automatic settings are not useful in all conditions. The built in flash is not good over 20 ft. Under low light conditions, an external flash is better option, but it costs additional too. Remember that shooting under low light conditions is always a difficult task. By the way, I don't know about such common problem in Canon XTi

Why does the word, ''busy'' pop up on the canon rebel xti?

If the flash fires a full charge(eg. in a dark environment) then this message will appear whilst it recharges. If the message appears all the time and you cannot take a photo there is most likely a problem. Try taking some pictures without the flash card to eliminate that first.

Built-in flash does not work

DO NOT MESS with a new camera (or any other new equipment).
Take/send it back to the vendor, The purchaser has rights also. Number one it must work.
I don't know your location but in UK (& Europe) we have very strict consumer legislation.

The only way to solve the problem I see is to turn the flash into non-TTL one. It can be easy done by opening four screws at the connector side of the flash, unsoldering or cutting the BROWN line and closing the connector back. The AF assist led will work.

That I did on my 200E with Canon 400D camera and all works file.
Enjoy!

The flash keeps flashing

hi sneakers
the camera is firing the flash to help it auto focus, the only way to stop it find an area of the picture that has more light/contrast or switch to manual focusing.
