The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced

I have an old Intertherm 911030 (probably from early 1990) that has a pilot. I would like to change it to an electronic ignition. Is this possible?thanks

Hello again Denise Zier,

If you are concerned about cutting fuel costs...
you can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of conversion...
perhaps a new heater would be a wiser choice...(??)

Call the local Lennox York or Rheem folks
(see below for they guys I used)... 1-800-360-1569.

If the pilot is not reliable... a less than $20 thermocouple
may only need to be replaced...

available through, eBay, AMAZON or (best) your local
hardware store... they just pull out... and BECAUSE
LENGHT is important it is best to take the old one
with you
(big caution... do NOT overtighten)...!!

Intertherm/nordyne furnace (24 years old)

Shut off power, get a small wrench, remove orifice spuds and clean them with toothpick. Take burners out and clean rust from them. Check and see if you are getting 24 volts to gas valve. If not replace it.

The wind keeps on blowing out pilot light in the Intertherm Gas Furnace

The wind is probably not the culprit here. You probably have a crack in the heat exchanger, which allows the air from the blower to escape and blow out the pilot light.

Can't seem to ignite pilot on a 30 year old vulcan heater. Same problem every year as winter is approaching :) Usually works fine once pilot is on though.

Hello,
It's probably just a dirty pilot orifice (or a spider web), if it's been off since last winter. Try using a can of compressed air with attached straw (like you use to clean computer keyboards) and blow out the dust from the pilot orifice in the pilot assembly, which is where you light it. That should do the trick. Good luck! Douglas

How do I light the pilot on my InterTherm MGBB 070 furnace? I have tried holding in the pilot switch but have had no success in getting the pilot lit.

Just to make sure you are trying to light the pilot, from the gas valve follow the small diameter pipe (1/8") to the pilot assembly. Where you should be placing your flame is above that point. Now with the gas valve knob turned to the Pilot marking, depress the know into the gas valve. Light the pilot. Check to see if it is lit and remain holding the knob in for 30 to 45 seconds. If the flame goes out as soon as you let out the knob, you will need to replace the thermocouple.

No hot air

If you have a pilot light (small flame) you can try to re-light it by turning the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position and pushing the knob down while lighting the pilot, you may have to hold the knob down for up to 30 seconds before releasing it. The pilot should stay lit and then turn the knob to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit or the main burner will not light it could be the gas valve or the temperature sensor.
