I have tried the master reset on my old VX3100 LG but that does not remove my personal cell phone number. If I give these phones away to some charity I do not want my phone number to still be there as the number is in use on my new cell. Verizon store tells me they cannot remove the old number. Is that true? If not how can I remove it. I will not give the phone away with the number on it.
Not sure what you mean? Your number is either stored in your phone book or is being sent by your netowrk provider and if this is the case the number is with your sim, not your phone. if you mean removing your phone number from the phone delete it from the addy book. Else, remove the sim and that should be it!

That could be that one of the components on the LCD is going bad. When this happens its always good to do a hard reset, meaning to remove battery give it a few then try to power it up again. If the issue persists i would also try performing a master reset. Make sure that your contacts, pictures and other things are backed up, for a master reset "can" delete and personal content e.g. contacts store on handset memory, pictures, downloaded content. If that fails, and your phone is less than a year old you can contact your provider phones usually come with a one year warranty through manufacturer. They might replace it at, although they might need to do some troubleshooting with you. Which will most likely comprise of what i told you.
the firmware might have got corrupted this might of happened due to
