The black wire is ground. It only has a red strip because it was split from the red wire. Red is positive.

Install a jvc radio without a wiring harness adapter

You have a red wire for constant power. That goes to the battery. You have a yellow wire that goes to power that comes on when you turn on the car. Connect that wire to a fuse in your fuse box that comes on when u turn on the car. Usually a radio fuse. Connect your black wire to the solid black wire, that is the ground. Then the speaker wires. There will be 4 sets of wires. 2 wires to a set. Each set of wires will be the same color. One will be solid color, the other will have a stripe. The striped wire is you negative speaker wire. The solid is positive. Just hook them up to the speaker wires you have coming from the stereo and see which are front, rear, left and right.

Dash wiring

The dimmer switch is solid state and uses the black wire for ground. The wiring diagram shows a red and black coming from the fuse and a red going to the dash lights. So you should be able to jumper the two reds to bypass the switch.
I would use a test light in the circuit to try it before you make it permanent.

No sound with Sony XAV-60 when playing DVD

The problem is with your ant. wite. It is the blue with a stripe. You need to hook either the solid blue or the blue with a stripe to the red ignition wire. For me I didn't have a power antena so I took the solid blue and hooked it to the striped blue out of the wiring harnes, then took the stripped blue and hooked it to the two red wires. I had no clue what was wrong, and no one had an answer. The problem is not with the ground it is with the antena and amp wires. Try to try one way and check it out and see if it works. The first way for me worked, but the head unit would not turn off when I turned the car off so I took the solid blue off the red and put it back with the stripped blue, then stripe blue out of the unit to the two reds, also give Sony support a call, they were great and I had it figured out in no time.

I have taken the head unit out of my old boat, would like a wiring daiagram, to installin my new boat!

Red = switched power
black = ground (earth)
yellow = bat power (on)

blue white striped antenna turn on

solid blue remote turn on for amp

(speakers)
(all will have one with black/white stripe if all sets have black = ground if all sets white = hot/+

green = rear
( cant remember left/right)
purple = rear

white = left front

Red = Right front

all of this should be on the bottom of the stereo

How do I hook up the bare wires speakers to the back, sound is coming out not good.

Sounds to me like you might have the polarity reversed. Meaning you might have hooked the positive to negative and the negative to the positive. Positive will will be red negative will be black on your receiver. On the speaker wires negative will always be solid black. Positive could be solid red, black with a red stripe, or black with any color stripe. Make sure you have solid black hooked to black and the other hooked to red. Hope this helps:)

I was wondering which wires are which to hook up an after market stereo in my 1991 plymouth laser. i need to know what are the power wires and the speaker wires on my stock wire harness.

I don't have the exact wire pinout, but I can offer you a generic method. Usually wires in an automotive wire harness that are Red, are power.
I would suggest you buy a cheap multimeter, (If you don't already have one), and set it to the DC volts-50 volt range. They have multimeter's that are relatively inexpensive. $10 or $12 dollars.

There will be a Red lead to a probe, (Positive), and a Black lead to a probe. (Negative) Hold the Red lead to the red wire. Touch the Black lead to any good ground. Any clean of paint, metal surface on the car. The needle should go up to 12 volts on the DC scale.

Ground wires are generally Black or Green. Should you see a Green wire with a stripe on it, this is not a ground wire.

Wires that are of a solid color and have a stripe on them, are usually speaker wires. They will be in pairs. There should be a wire of a solid color with a stripe on it, and a wire of the same color, but no stripe, to make up one pair. One pair is for one speaker. For example:
Blue color wire with a White stripe, and a solid Blue color wire.

There may be two pairs of wires, or four pairs. Two speakers in front, two speakers in back, for the four pairs of wires.
After you find the power wire, and have it attached to the stereo, plus a ground wire, I suggest you make sure ALL the other wire ends are not touching each other, on the stereo. Put a small piece of Black electrical tape on them.
Take one pair of speaker wires, from the car harness, and attach them to the stereo. Turn the stereo on, and see which speaker wires you have. Move the Front/Back, and Left/Right controls.
Now it's just a matter of finding out the correct hook ups for those wires. Match them up.
