If you know how to solder, I would suggest to just replace the STKICs and some of the low value resistors. If you do not how to solder replacing the entire board is the way to to get the TV fix. You might still need to adjust the convergence after the board replacement.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
You will need 2 new convergence ICs STK392-110 also the 1.8 ohm resistor and the pico fuse usually burn with that model. the ICs are located on the small board located behind the speaker grille and access panel in front. Easy repair go to the following link and you can get replacement ICs and any other part you need. And they provide installation instructions as well as free on line instant meassaging for all customers when they do thier actual repair. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
1. if the 1.5 ohm resistor was open, then you may have fried your new convergence ic's. Sorry
2. bettween a 1.5 - 1.9 ohm resistor will work
3. press sleep button, set to 30
hold down video status button and press display on remote
select convergence from the new menu and hit OK.
Do fix the convergence before you try to align the convergence or it will look horrible after you get the circuit fixed and will be harder to align.
The white button is there because the DCU (digital convergence unit) can be erased by holding that button and turning the set on.
I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THAT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
You would need the service manual to dtermine which IC controls the red. One IC controls red and the other controls blue. If the red was replaced before. It probaly went out as some suppliers dont use origional sanyo ICs. Which unfortunately dont last as long as the sanyo parts do.
If you did not use heat sink compound then you probably have not hurt the new IC's yet but you should remove them and add the heat sink compound NOW. If the convergence IC's are bad then you will have access to the convergence menu but the adjustments will have no effect. The fact that you switched the IC's and got the same results shows that the IC's are good. If your red convergence is still way out when the new IC's are installed then the old IC probably burned out the low value resistor associated with the Red Vertical (RV) channel.
