Hi,

A possible reason is that the WiFi is not using the router's IP add as the Default Gateway. To confirm this, pls use static IP add to the WiFi mimicking the settings while in Ethernet except do a +1 on the IP add while retaining same numbers for the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi tricia. Are you using security for you wireless such as WPA, WEP, etc. If so, you must have the key code from your router entered on your wireless card so it can have access.
Also, you must make sure the Channel and SSID are the same. If not you will get the symptoms you've described.
If this solves you're problem please rate as fixed. If you need help with these settings just add a comment and I'll be more than happy to assist you further. Thanks.

Please follow these steps:
teps:

1. Connect PC to one of the 4 LAN ports of ur Netgear via LAN cable (DO NOT connect it to ADSL router right now).
2. Change LAN IP address to something other then 192.168.1.x. like suppose 192.168.2.1. To do that click on LAN IP Setup....apply. my router will not connect to the internet - wifi_ip.jpg
4. Right click on the connection icon in sys tray and hit repair.
3. Now connect WiFi router to ADSL modem as earlier.
4. Run WiFi setup Wizard.

This should get you started.

Ok, here are the steps to make the connection secure.

1. Login to the netgear.
2. Go to Advanced>>Wireless
3. Uncheck Enable SSID broadcast. Apply
4. Click on Setup Access List
5. Turn access control on. Add ur wireless cards mac id to the allow list. Apply

Additionally you could do this.
1. Go to Setup>>Wireless Settings. Here notedown the connection name(SSID) since you'll be needing it later.
2. In security options, choose WPA-PSK
3. Put in a passphrase.
4. Put in the key lifetime as 15min. Apply.

Ur net connection will stop working after this coz u have to configure ur laptop.

5. Now if ur using a laptop with intel centrino, then go to Start>>Intel Pro Wireless. If u were using the windows client earlier, switch to this one.
6. Make a new Profile. Put in the connection name (SSID). Click next.
7. In the Network Security option, choose WPA Personal from the menu and TKIP from the Data Encryption Menu. Put in ur passphrase below. Save and click on Connect. U Should be back online now with a secure connection.

Let me know how this goes when you try it and if you have any questions on this, please tell me. thanks.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

How to change Linksys wireless router?

When you get cable internet, the cable company provides you with a modem (usually). From the cable modem you can hook up the Linksys router with an ethernet cable and it will work just fine. Hook the router up to the desktop or laptop with another ethernet cable if you need to make changes to the router security or whatever. The router address is generally 192.168.1.1. YOu can type that address right into the internet address and you router page shoud show up. If you have been using the Linksys router with the phone line all you need is to connect it to the cable modem to work. An ethernet cable is like a telephone line with a fatter connecter.

Cant go wireless

I think the problem is not your laptop configuration. Can you check the setup configuration of the router it's maybe the wireless function is disable. Or try to reset the router to his default configuration. Press the reset bottom of the router for 15 second then try to connect your wireless connection if still not working setup again the router configuration.

thanks

I think you have lost your PPPOE internet connection. Reestablish the connection. If this is not the problem, click your wireless connection on the taskbar and search for your wireless device and reconnect. BPCS

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
