Question about GE Spacemaker Washer and Dryer Electric Laundry Center
If you haven't removed the cold water hose from the washer's connector, you may be in luck.
The valve assembly very often has a cone-shaped screen inserted into the assembly that is prone to clogging.
Before having a 'whole house' filter, this was a regular task and could be easily done with an old toothbrush.
If there is no screen or trapped particles, the mixing valve assembly itself can fail. These are poorly made but cheap and easy to replace when faulty. Most are held in place with a single screw and have two or three leads connected with 'quick-disconnect' type terminals. Part of the back of the washer must be removed but that too involves normally only a half-dozen or so sheet metal screws.
Once the rear of the machine is accessible, it is only about a 15-20 minute job.
The part itself is used widely in many machines so could be available from dealers (with service offered) or from appliance parts companies.
