Question about Simrad GPS

1 Answer

I have a Simrad CP33 GPS plotter and want to interface it with the VHF to get a position on the radio. I have no manual, cannot find one anywhere, and there are a lot of connections at the back. Which connector and pins are the NMEA position data output?

I tried three times to download the same file as you suggested getting nowhere. At your suggestion I waited and waited (GPRS only in my world) and after a looong time it came to me. Thank you. Page 120 has the required information. The rest will be useful in the future I am sure.

Here is a link to the operation manual of the GPS plotter in PDF, it is a large file (3.25MB) so allow time for it to download.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Change MMSI number ? simrad rd 68

Hi!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the Owners Manual for this unit:
http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/simrad-rd68.pdf (Page 6),
to erase a previously entered MMSI, the radio must be sent to a Simrad authorized dealer. I suppose this feature was put into effect to cut down on stolen Simrad products.

Hope this is helpful, sorry I couldn't do more for you.

My plotter seems not to output NMEA to my DSC radio and auto helm

Your plotter can talk to you Radio and your pilot. It sounds like one of two things. You must go into the system setup menu and turn on the nmea sentances. You will need to turn on RMB, RMC, GGl at least. You can turn on all the sentances if you like it does not matter. If this does not fix, check color of wiring is correct. Remember you have to go from NMEA + out (on plotter) to NMEA + IN on Radio. Then you need NMEA - out(on Plotter) to NMEA - IN on Radio.
You can look at the sentances wirth a multi meter coming out of your plotter. You put meter in DCV and connect across the NMEA out lines. You will see the meter move every second or so as it send a sentance.

Raymarine Ray 240 usa model

You cannot just reprogram your Raymarine to european standard.

This radio has been built and is licenced for using with USA frequency, in Europe his use will be limited to lower bands with no modification.

To be fully adapted to higher bands, the radio must be taken apart, and you need to bridge a contact on the main board.

The use of the radio after modifacion won't be legal in Europe.
