Question about ViewSonic VP181 18.1" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have a Viewsonic VP181 monitor that has a intermittent problem. When I start the computer, the power light on the power button is yellow and there is no display. If I unplug the monitor from the running computer, power off the monitor and then power it back on, the power light is green. I can plug the monitor back into the computer and the monitor works. Any suggestions as to how to fix? Thanks. Bill

You might need to replace the board that has the d-sub connector on it, ebay might have that, this is a fairly used monitor if you where to have it replaced by a repair shop it might not be worth your wild on it but its up to you. i price this board around
$35-50 bucks respectively.

The light on the monitor indicates that it is in power saver mode. This means that a signal isnot detected at the video input and the monitor shuts down to conserve power. When the computer starts up, the signal should be detected and the monitor should come on. There is a failure in the signal detection circuit. This can be as simple as a bad solder connection that is creating increased resistance inside the monitor or it can be a failure of the detection circuit itself. If you have any electronics experience, try resoldering the connections at either the VGA connector or at the connection point wihtin the monitor at the end of the video cable. Quite often there is a cable that connects the external VGA connector to a PC board via a short cable terminated in a flat connector.

    Hope this helps,
    Dan

1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.

bharapatel5, You will just need to resolder one "thermally intermittant" poor solder connection inside the monitor. Go YOUTUBE and watch video clips, then do very close inspection of the "switch-mode-power-supply/ccfl inverter supply" printed circuit board. Inspect for "swollen" electrolytic filter capacitors that may need replacement also!!! Do more research here on fixya in the fixya profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" for lots more info that you will need. 12fixlouie

Viewsonic vx2835wm monitor, in DVI mode connection, altough getting signal from the PC(Other monitor connected and tested for graphic card problem-No graphics card problem!!) , Prompts "No input-signal"...

You will need to change the resolution of the screen on the computer to 800-600 and the bit to 24bits or 16bits, to do this right click on the windows screen, and click properties, goto settings.
You should see a slider at the bottem left of the screen to adjust the resolution, and a drop down bar on the other side for the bit rate. This should solve the problem, also you could open the scond screen also in the display properties, and drag what you need to see on the screen to that screen, you will know what i mean when you open screen 2 it just expands the desktop. hope this helps.

Won't power on

check your power supply maybe its too old to work for your computer. If the power supply is not the problem try checking the cables, there might be loose connections.

Also , you should check the power source of your home, maybe you have a low voltage and that wont turn on your monitor.
