Question about Panasonic SDR-H40 HDD Camcorder

1 Answer

Panasonic SDR-40. We have Vista and 7 OS on our laptops. Windows MediaPlayer starts to play the videos then stops with the message "MediaPlayer has encountered a problem..." Can you tell us please - what is the best programme to use to download the camera, record and play DVD's. Also do we need drivers for those things too? Links to downloads and instructions would be greatly appreciated. Also - can we download from the camera hard drive multiple times - and how do we delete and clear the hard drive? Thank you so much for any help. Regards Mike.

The Video Cam Suite software comes with the SDR-40, and should work good for you. Here is an update for the program, which should allow the drivers and program to function well:
http://www.userdrivers.com/Camcorder/Panasonic-SDR-H40-H60-Camcorder-VideoCam-Suite-1-0-L021-Software-Update-for-Windows-XP-Vista/download/
Also, this webpage talks about alternative programs people have used:
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7594_102-0.html?threadID=307088
There should be an option in the camera to delete the movies, or an option to transfer and delete them- refer to your manual for the procedure.
Good luck, and hope this helps you.

Windows Vista basic cannot install the driver for SDR-H40?

Thanks for allowing us to handle your situation.

What error messages are you getting with your Windows Vista?

Please click here for the camera software suite I know this will help out allot.

Now if your still getting error's my next question are you running 64 bit or a 32 bit windows vista operating system.

The driver was built for windows Xp but should work on Windows Vista Home Basic.

I sure hope this helps you out.

Please update me with any other info you might have.

Hi, you can transfer the files to your computer, you just can't use the camera's VideoCam editing software. However, you can still view the movies and photos taken by the camera using standard Windows programs.

My computer do not accept the cd to install the software for sdr-h40 hdd camcorder, i get a message saying do not support the software

What OS is the computer running? The software isn't guaranteed to work with 64-bit Windows. (Windows 2000 through Vista are tested. Win 7 is an untested OS)

If you have Win7, you can try running the software in the compatibility mode. Right click on the Installer (.exe) and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility Tab and check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode and use the drop down menu to select Vista or XP. Then right click again on the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

Another option is to run the software in a virtual computer running a supported OS. Win7 Pro and Ultimate support the XP mode which needs two programs downloaded and installed from Microsoft. Otherwise you need a licensed version of the OS to install in the virtualization program. Then install the camera software inside the virtual computer (as if it was the only computer).

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(also note that the software does not run on some dual boot systems and may not run properly on multi-CPU systems. Updated software/drivers do not seem to be available on the Panasonic support site.)
