Question about Televison & Video
Hi, well i have seen this type of problem many times in my shop, what has happened is the protection circuitry in the power supply, has sensed a fault, that maybe, is, so severe that it could cause a fire, and explosion or both, if the set was not stopped form working. So the protection circuitry prohibits the set from turning on fully..
This indicates that there is a fairly serious fault with the set. (It should be removed from the power until fixed) However the exact "Cause" could not be ascertained until the set was examined to determine the exact cause, as many, many problems can cause this to happen. Most a quite serious.
It is my professional recommendation that you contact a local or head office of Sony, and ask them for a referral to a local authorised service center. Now when here ask them for a "Quote" before allowing any repair work to commence. This then will allow you to make an informed decision as to repair or replace. As many repairs, can quickly escalate in cost, and sometimes it is best to put any monies that would be spent towards the repair, on a new set, with a warranty.
However if you wish to DIY, not really recommended, for a plethora of reasons, then the first thing you must obtain is a service manual.
Please find below, a link for a training manual, this is what we use to train the engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and repair these sets, it will gibe you an idea of just what is involved.
