Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I bought a brand new Duo Thermo rv ac unit and I am having a issue with the compressor. I have it running all day and it works fine, but when it is running at night the compressor shuts down frequently and it gets so hot inside. Is this something that is normal.

Hi,
Yes, the Air conditioner system is a bit low in charge, so when the air cools outside it drops the gas pressure too low and then the lose of charge switch cuts out till the pressure raises then it comes on again..

The best thing would be to get a pro to add some charge to this A/C system.

Here isa tip that I wrote about how to add refrigerant to a air conditioner or coolingsystem

How to add Freon to a Air Conditioner or Refrigeration System

Thank you that makes sense. I am going to take it back to where I got it and ask them if they could add some charge to the a/c. Do all of the rv a/c do this, or is there another type of unit I could get that will not have this problem, like a swap cooler. This is a major problem for me because I have it in my concession trailer and we work throughout the night at some fairs and festivals and it gets pretty hot in there at night.

    Hi,
Yes, If you can get it charged properly then it will work down to 65 or so....if you can find someone to install a head pressure control you may be able to get it down towards 40 degrees....it may take some ingenuity to get it to work at low temps. but it can be done...
Do some asking around till you find someone that knows how to do it...

I have duo therm rooftop Ac unit, was working fine and just went out. Seems like it is not getting power, I checked breaker and fuses. Still not working. What do i do next ?

First of all are you plugged in at a rv park or home? Had ours do that as well, found the electrical source in rv park was defective. Caused our AC unit to cut in and out then wouldn't run at all. Moved to a new location and the ac was fine.

RV Dometic Duo Therm roof top AC w/heat pump Model #630515.321El Serial #21631212 Yr. 2003. It is the rear unit, front unit working fine. In AC mode it is blowing hot air as if the heat pump is on. Fan...

If the Air comeing out is the same as the temp inside the RV make sure the compressor is running and not just the fans. It could be low on freon. If freon is ok then you would need to ck the wiring to the selector switch for a short. It would be obviouse because there will be melted wires. I am leaning toword low on freon since you have already been inside the wiring/control unit.

AC Kicking OFF Breaker

Sounds like you have a problem with your compressor. If the beaker trips the second the compressor tries to come on hen it is shorted. If it takes a couple of seconds, then your compressor is locked up.

Duo Therm compressor tries to start and kicks out

I don't think these little units have a start capacitor but what I would do is check that the on/off switch wires to make sure they aren't loose. Also check the wires to the compressor for loose wires as well. It is possible that these are the first signs that the compressor is about to fail. They also can act up some when they haven't been used for awhile and then you try and start them up. Try running the unit for a few hours without asking it to cycle. It might just be a sticky valve.

Duo therm ac problem

Same problem. I have a 2005 on a Rockwood Roo. Worked fine in October 2009. Not working June 2010. Problem is not a freon leak, compressor went bad. I banged the compressor gently with rubber mallet then with a hammer but that did not work. The fan runs, the compressor runs but gets hot. Also no indication of freon moving through system as everything gets warm from the compressor outward.

Duo-therm by dometic ac rv unit

I suspect that you have a bad selector switch for the on, off, low fan, high fan operation. If the selector switch is put into the off position everything should stop completely.
