Sorry, that is a generic Chinese brand. Try a local library for beginners guides in the Science sections, and ask around if there is a local astronomy club.

Why is Isaac Newton famous?

He is one of the few acknowledged geniuses in the history of science. There is argument about who qualifies beyond he and Einstein, to a greater or lesser degree, but not about these top 2.

Newton was a polymath too, an all-round genius. He is responsible for
- the laws of motion
- the law of universal gravitation
- proving Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion
- the first theory of colour and spectrum
- the first practical reflecting telescope
- jointly with Leibniz, the mathematical calculus

He was famous in his own time, but was not always an attractive person, being sometimes cranky, argumentative and ungenerous.

Lagrange said Newton amongst scientists was "the most fortunate, for we cannot find more than once a system of the world to establish."

Hi I have just obtained a newton telescope, I can obtain a clear image after focusing without a prism but with a right angled prism attached all I receive is a blur using any size eyepiece. Can you...

If this is a REFLECTOR style telescope with a mirror in the bottom you do NOT need a diagonal. If this is a refractor style telescope, do NOT use the 2x barlow it is probably too much magnification for the scope-- Just use the eyepieces without the barlow.

Is it worth a rescue?

Hi there,

it's not worth spending too much, but if the mirror is in good order, it would make a fine starter scope. The very cheap and nasty scopes start around D=76mm, and often boast great magnifications, these scopes are virtually useless. The size of the mirror is the most important factor, and at 114mm, your grandson will have many hours of pleasure observing the moon and planets.
Eyepieces can be found on ebay very cheaply, but be sure to get one with the correct O/D they come in 0.96 in, 1.25 in and 2 inch. I expect your scope will be 1.25" I suggest you should buy a maximum of two eyepieces (around 30mm and 6mm) and a barlow lens. These will give you magnifications of 30X, 60X, 150X and 300X.
If you require any further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.
Kind Regards......Dave
