A black square, within the picture, as if to black out the screen, appears after BRAVO! has been on for about 10 minutes. Grandchild was here and think she might have played with the remote. It looks like what might happen if you programmed in something to block out a child from watching something on a channel.
I can remove it temporarily by hitting the "Display" button but it comes back in 5-10 mins. When the TV is turned off and back on, the screen is OK for 5-10 mins but then the "black sqaure" returns. (Sometimes it has something like a line of Chinese printing on it as well.) At one point, there were several rectangles with this printing across the screen but that seems to have stopped.
I have the same problem. A black square appears as if to block out the station - covers about 80% of the screen. If you press any key it will disappear for a few seconds and then reappear. I can't see anything in the MENU to fix this. Don't know what to do.

There is a processing fault that is starting to occure. What you are seeing is a type of aliasing. This can be in the main signal processing or in one of the control areas.
The set will require service. The service rep will test the set by using board substitution. There are typicaly a number of areas in the TV set that can cause this type of fault. Once the defective board is located the fault will be easy to service with a simple board swap and some adjustments.
If the set is out of warranty, it may be expensive to service. With many of the no-name brands, spare parts can be difficult or impossible to have.
This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?
Check the closed caption feature in the menu setup. Consult the instruction manual about closed caption, or call the manufacture tech support.
What is probably activated is the closed caption bulletin board feature, and the station you are tuned to has the board up but with nothing on it. They use these to put text messages mainly for programming schedules and notifications.
I had the same problem once with my RCA television. It only happened on certain channels and didn't happen during commercial breaks. If I adjusted the volume on the tv the box went away, but came back shortly after. The problem ended up being some malfunction in the closed captioning. I turned it all off and changed the CC settings and never had the problem again.
