How deep do you want to get into this?It sounds like the wash pump motor bearings that are worn. You can pull the unit out flip it over and wd40 the bearings in the motor or you can replace the bearings.Try to lube them first.

A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.

if you have a torx 20, and torx 15 screw driver, you an remove the screws from the top plate of the wash motor, and underthere youll see another t15 screw converingthe "chopper" assy, sounds as if a seed, of chicken bone, perhaps apiece of glass hasgottne down there

Is the water filling up and then draining out? Mine did this and a part was broken inside the unit. The part was five dollars and called a lifter. I fixed it myself.

Ive got an LG LD1204w1 model dishwasher, the grinding sound started about a week before the E1 error code and incessant dinging began. I found FixYa the best site for LG solutions, the wiring had fused to the lining on the door as suggested, so a bit of electrical tape has done the trick as far as the E1 error and dinging is concerned (thankfully no broken wires)
However I still have the grinding sound during the wash cycle. Drainage and fill hoses are to specifications stated by LG, there is no wear on inspection, the unit isnt losing water during wash so the air/water issue I dont think is relevant to my situation. Is there anything else that could possibly be causing the awful noise its making? The noise seems to be coming from the bottom/underside of the dishwasher.
