SOURCE: GE side by side fridge TFX22JR not staying cold

You need to unplug the unit and check continuity with a meter across the defrost heater/s. If they are open, that's your problem. The defrost termination thermostat HAS to be below 20 degrees (varies model to model) to close. If at room temp it will read open. Doubtful it is your defrost timer.

SOURCE: fridge less and less cold. both sides. now totally

The parts manual on that refrigerator show a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Need you to turn the timer clockwise with a flathead screwdriver slowly until the compressor stops. Leave it alone for 30 minutes and if it does not turn itself back on then we need to replace the timer. If not we need to unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel inside the freezer. We will need to test the defrost heater and inspect the defrost thermostat. Let me know when you are ready. The part number for the timer is 68233-3

Need to know where the defrost timer is located on a GE SIDE BY SIDE MODEL GSH25JFRF-BB. its a 2001 model if that matters.

hello , hope this helps
your model shows that your model has a main board . the defrost timer is now a main board and everything runs through that board. behind the ref . square cut out by the btm with 6-8 screws that hold the cover in place.

Have a be side by side model GSH25JFRF-BB the freezer won't go into defrost mode I know you can manually make it by using a flat screwdriver and turning the little plastic thing on a reg fridge but I

The "Little Plastic Thing" you're referring to is a timer - usually found under the front bottom of the refrigerator. If the timer is stuck, your defrost cycles won't run. There are other reasons for refrigerators not defrosting, but the timer is the most frequent cause.

No power & not running

Hi, you have to check few things, first of all check power at the outlet for 120 volts. If the light in the fridge works, the defrost timer, cold control and possibly the wiring are the most common things that can make a fridge sit there and be dead, not working.
The defrost timer might be stuck in defrost, turn the timer screw to advance the timer and if the fridge comes back on, replace the defrost timer. You can join the wires together to by-pass the cold control for a test, if the fridge comes on, replace the cold control...

Take care

Freezer works fridge does not on a GE GSS22QGMC BB

you need to take freezer evaperator cover off , then turn it to defrost and test the supply voltage across the defrost element. if no volts then test the round disk looking thing with 2 wirers comming out of it . with the supply power removed from the power point, the coil frozen up , disconnect these wirers and use a continuity checker such as a multy meter on diode check or buzzer mode, you should have a closed circuit through the defrost termination thermostat (round disk with 2 wirers) , it is in series with the defrost element thus cutting the power to the element if the coil temp gets too high and terminates the element , the timer will time out after it's time duration is reached. A good way to test the motor in the timer is to put a texta mark on the dial of the timer and check it in 1/2 hr, to see if it has moved.AFTER YOU HAVE PUT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS BACK AFTER TESTING THE TERMINATIN THERMOSTAT AND MADE IT SAFE, YOU WOULD PLUG IT BACK IN.
The defrost timer needs to be connected to power of the fridge to opperate.
regards
****. let me know your progress pls.
