Hey mary the transition plate that sits between the washer and dryer has 3 screws that need to be removed then the plate will lift up and outward towards you and flip up
The timer is on the left side of the machine as you are looking at it

I need to replace lid switch on Whirlpool Thin Twin washer/dryer unit. How do I get the switch out and the new one in

The 3 screws across the front of the slanted panel need to be removed, then the panel. At the left and right rear of the main washer top are 2 5/16" screws, these need to be removed, there is a loose fitting steel clip through a slot on the main top these are holding down, when the 5/16" screws are removed slide the entire top forward and it will release from the front fixed clips. Unplug the lid switch unit and the main top can be set aside to replace the switch. Pleazer Appliance...

It's heavy duty thin twin model. The cycle stops at spin and water stays in the mashine.

When it gets to the SPIN cycle, wait 45 seconds. If it does not spin, open then close the lid.
If it spins then, replace the timer.
If it does not spin, replace the lid switch.

Kenmore 90 heavy duty top load washer won't agitate

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

Following is a description of how to release the console for access to the pins.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

Whirpool twin washer & dryer lte5243dq3 drum off center

The ltw5243dq3 is a top loading washer with the dryer stacked on top. In order to remove things
1. One the angled piece of metal that is between the dryer and the washer there will be two screws. Remove them.
2. Next open the washer lid. There will be two screws on the right side. Remove those.
3. Close the lid. There are two final screws that hold the top part of the washer in place. You can't see them directly from the front so you might need a mirror or access to the back side of your unit.
4. Slide the top of the washer forward about 1 inch. List it up about 1inch and you will see that some wires are attached. Disconnect these wires so you can take the top off entirely.
5. To remove the front panel there are two screws. One on the left and one on the right. If you look down inside in the washer you will see them.
6. Slide the front panel upwards and then you will be able to remove it.

You should now be able to see inside your washer and it should look like the attached picture.

hope that helped,

The symptoms you describe are typical of a broken lid switch. The lid switch is located under the washer top on the right hand side. It is activated through a slot by a small plastic piece on the lid called a "lid strike". Make sure the lid strike is still installed and not broken. Make sure the lid switch itself is not loose, as well. There are two mounting screws along the washer tub opening that hold it in place. If the screws become loose the switch will not make contact with the lid strike when the lid is closed. If you need to replace the switch or lid strike, the parts are available at Just type in your model number and look under the "Washer Top and Lid" heading on the next page. The lid switch is listed as item number 22 (part #3355806) and the lid strike is listed as item number 16 (part #358684). Both parts combined will cost you about $30. If you have further questions and/or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
