The response code is generated by Toshiba... you can try taking out the cmos battery, but that is a whole operating in itself requiring complete dis-assembly of the laptop itself, and even then it is backed up by another battery of sorts if I remember correctly on these M700's. At this point you are going to want to contact Toshiba if they can advise you on how to bypass the password and remove it, they are the only ones, as most of the time people that are trying to do what you are trying are people who have "found" or "stolen" the laptop and are trying to get into it, but of course Toshiba has a way around it. I am definitely not accusing you of doing those things, but am just saying that the only way to get around it is with the help of the manufacturer.

I have few queries, did she set it or did it come up unexpectedly? In many cases, the Bios password comes up unexpectedly. And it's also important to let me know the operating system installed on the system. There are several tools, but it's a little complicated to fix it if you aren't a tech, but I will definitely try my best to assist you.

If in case, she didn't set the password, but came up unexpectedly, then the password should be "Toshiba" or "toshiba" (without quotes).

Let me know the details.

Awaiting.

Thanks.

Ok, then try the Command Prompt method :

This method works only if you have access to the system when its turned on because this method requires MS DOS. Open Command Prompt [click Start and then type in "cmd" in the search here box and press Enter] from Programs menu and provide following commands one bye one:

    debug

    o 70 2E

    o 71 FF

    exit

(Note: you have to press Enter at every command from debug to exit)

NOTE: The first character in the above commands is letter "O" and not the number 0.

After providing the above commands, restart your system and it should reset the CMOS Settings along with the BIOS password.

If you are curious to know how it works? then let me explain the above commands:

In this method we are using the Debug tool of MS DOS. The "O" character present at first in these commands, outputs the values to IO ports. The number 70 and 71 are port numbers which are used to access CMOS memory. By providing FF value we are telling CMOS that there is an invalid checksum and it resets the CMOS settings as well as BIOS password.

If this doesn't help, you'll need to disassemble and try jumper trick or Cmos battery method. There are several tools, but I don't think it'll be possible for you since those techniques are very complicated and time consuming.

Let me know if you need further help.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,

The bios password can only be reset by sending the laptop to a toshiba service center. Please contact your dealer or toshiba directly.

The bios password is there to protect the laptop incase it is stolen, you can not bypass the password for a good reason, techs at toshiba will be able to reset it.

Hi I have a toshiba portege m750 and my little brother was using it and I have decided to use it for college but the only thing is he cannot remember I was just wondering how would I go about changing the...

You can set a user password from inside Windows. From the configuration panel look for an icon that represents two persons and click on it. Follow instructions on setting a user password.
You can also set a password on boot but you have to be careful: If you forget it you cannot open the tablet to remove the password. You will need to take the computer to a Toshiba Certified Service Center.

To set the password on boot you can use the BIOS SetUp configuration or a Toshiba Windows applications (HRWset).

For Windows XP tablet PC edition 2005
If you have the CrossMenu application you can run the HRWsetup from there. You can also go to All programs, Toshiba Utilities and look for HRWSetUp.

For Windows Vista or Windows 7, the name of the application may be Toshiba Security Assist.

Be very careful. You must not lose the password

I have a toshiba portege m100 with a bios password set that i need to bypass. toshiba want 80 quid just to look at it. some sorces say short clr1 jumper but i cant find it on my machine. please help.

Most DESKTOP computers have a jumper to "clear CMOS settings",
but most NOTEBOOK computers do NOT have that jumper.

The password exists to protect the owner of the computer, should a thief be trying to use the computer.

You probably can remove the disk-drive, and copy the files onto a new computer, if you don't want to pay TOSHIBA to bypass the password.

Bios password for toshiba laptop needs reset

Try This: Resetting a Toshiba BIOS Password KeyDisk will reset the BIOS password on Toshiba laptops.
Older Toshiba laptopsmag-glass_10x10.gif can be convinced to boot without their power-on BIOS password by attaching a dongle to the parallel port which crosses a number of the pins. The pin out is:
Pins 1-5-10 2-11 3-17 4-12 6-16 7-13 8-14 9-15 Some Toshiba's can be convinced to bypass the startup BIOS password if you hold down the <LEFT-SHIFT> key while booting the system.

Toshiba portege 7100 serise laptop,,, dont know password

Can you press F2 and DEL lots of times to get the BIOS menu up?
If so then does it ask for a password?
If so then you have a BIOS password set. Unless you can boot the laptop to DOS or from a CD it is difficult to bypass this.
The other way is to disconnect all batteries - including the one inside the chassis and then leave it for at least 1 hour.
Then connect it up again and see if the pasword is reset,
