Question about Freezers

1 Answer

Hi I live in Zambia, have no power and was given a gas deep freeze 230l. I cleaned the pipe with a brush and hung the swivel back in. I have had it on for about 4 hours but the pipes on the inside are not getting cold although the bottom of the fridge is getting cool. Any ideas on what could be wrong and what I can do to fix it. Thanks. Tris

Freezer side not freezing

Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... Check if the refrigerant gas is enough. You can feel this on your compressor motor. if the one pipe from the compressor motor is hotter and the other has to be cooler/warm.

Frigidaire upright freezer ice forming in bottom and leaking not freezing ice cream

This does not sound good because the breakers tripping may indicate a compressor windings short. Have someone do the test below,
Unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel that covers the compressor. There should be 3 wires going inside the cover of the compressor. Mark all 3 and mark their location so if compressor is OK you can put them back in same order. The plastic cover may snap on and you may need to squeeze the sides to unlock the cover and sometimes there is a metal clip holding the cover in place. Remove the cover. May look hard but it's simple. There will be three connections under the cover and 2 will go through the start relay. Unplug them leaving the three prongs exposed. They may be marked R =Run, S=Start and C=Common. Set your meter on continuity and then begin by testing 2 at a time until you have checked S to R and R to C an C to S and S to R again. You should get a reading all the way around. If no reading between any of the pairs as you go around you should get no reading between any two the compressor has an open winding and is defective. Then if it passes that test then touch one probe to R and the other to the copper pipes or clean metal on outside of compressor, then S to metal outside and C to metal outside. If you get a reading this way even just a little. The compressor is a burnout. Then let me know what you find. Thanks, Sea Breeze

My GE deep freezer seems to be getting warmer. There only seems to be a freezer sensor panel. Does this mean that the sensor is broken or is there another way to get the freezer back to a deep freeze?

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

How to disable deep freeze? plz give me solution.

If there are two compressors on your unit, disconnect the freezer compressor. If only one compressor, nothing can be done as the fridge and freezer piping are in series. Assuming you have an upright fridge.

check the condenser coil it maybe plugged up use a hand brush to clean out coils and if you can use a air compressor to blow out coils this is the best way and this coil is used to remove heat from the system if it looks clean you can shine a flash light on the opposite side to see the light though the coils to check deep inside other then that the water vale may have a slight leak allowing warm water to seep though prolonging the freeze time or  you may have a compressor with weak valves or low ref. start with the maintenance thats the first thing people usually over look the dirty coil that you should clean once to twice a year that can over heat the compressor and cause it go out.
