Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

Everything works but it stopped heating, bought it in 2001, electric model. if it is the heating element, is it something I can fix or should I have them do it? Sears offered a $193 deal, fix whatever is wrong now and whatever goes wrong for the next year. good deal or bad deal? is it time to buy a new dryer? Washer is from 1994 and still works fine

Good day,
Could be the heating element or maybe not. The first thing to check. Remove the back. Near the bottom center is a link fuse that looks like this.

everything works but it stopped - 7d8c104.jpg
It should check at zero ohms with a VOM meter. If bad replace.
It's a nickle dime part and fails a lot.
If it checks O.K. then the next item to check is the heating element itself. It's in the canister on the right side.

Here is a link to changing it, if it checks bad with a VOM meter.
It should read less than 35 ohms.

As far as prices go, a one year service contract on your machine normally runs between $108.00 to $128.00 dollars.
But that's based on a machine that is in good working order.

I guess you'll have to pick your poison but keep in mind that a dryer has no transmission, clutch or tub seals. It's a simplex machine that can be repaired forever with little chance of (as so many people like to say) IT DIED.

Kenmore machines are a product of Whirlpool...

My fostoria spacer stop producing heat model 1520 3A. Smell a burn odor fan still works. Sounds different too. can you help? Dennis

Your electric space heater works by using a quartz infrared element, something that can eventually burn out due to use/defects. To fix your space heater, you will have to get another element specific to your model fostoria. While I did a quick search online, I could not find any matches to a replacement, but you can still call the company for one. Before calling, though, check to see if your heater is still under warranty, probably 1 to 2 years. The number for fostoria is 1-800-495-4525. Best of luck.

Dryer continues to heat when door is open

The model number you put up is for a gas dryer, but you said element, so I'm assuming it is actually electric.

If this is in fact an electric dryer, you most likely have a heating element that has shorted to the case. There is a small chance that something else in that circuit has shorted to ground but I doubt it.

If this actually is a gas dryer, please discontinue use immediately and get a licensed tech over there to look at it.

Good Luck

yes the price of fixing it is less then a new unit most of the time.
you might need new heating element or cut-off switch only.

Electric dryer doesn't heat.

Probably a bad heating element. There are a few different styles, you'll just need to lookup your model number on an appliance parts website, find the right part, and then do a quick search on replacement. There are probably ten or fifteen websites that have instructions to replace heating elements.

Here's one where you can buy the part, the element is part number 17.

My dryer stopped heating up so I tried to fix the heating element. I noticed in the other one that some of the coiles broke in half so I knew this was the problem. Well I bought a new one, hooked it up and...

Could be a defective element, but it also could be your thermostats faulty...give them a check.
Normally you can only hook up the heating coils one way...I do not believe that would be the problem.
Hope this helps

heat element on the heated seat is broken and has to be replaced the blinking light lets you know something is wrong and prevents power going to the element and prevents shorting out of fire.

Hi there,
had the same problem with my Electrolux. Element blew and the fan stopped working and food was stone cold. I pulled the element out - had to remove the rear panel to get to the wires but the element came out from inside the oven by removing a few screws. Went off to the local Applaince store and bought a new element which was pretty dear as this model was made in NZ. Replaced the element put it all back together and away she went. If you do it yourself make sure you TURN OFF THE POWER at the power box. It is a good idea to have an electrical tester to make sure the element is the problem. These are usually not hard to repair and it is usually just a few screws to remove the rear cover and possibly a cover inside the oven to get the element out. A Handy Person will be able to do this job. Hope this helps.

Bryan

Red light's on... but no hot water!

HI,

OK, inside the unit there are three items, the heating element, thermostat, and thermal fuse. What has happened is the element got too hot and the thermal fuse opened. There is no reset button. In some cases you may run across a defective heating element or thermostat but its not common. The fix would probably be replacement of the thermostat and thermal fuse. For this, you would have to contact a small appliance repair center in your area.

Goodluck,
