You need to figure out the model number...if its one like the one pictured in your question, then yes it can be repaired if the circut board itself isnt damaged...the ports are available on ebay for about twelve dollars.

the following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

let me know if you need more help or info

Worked for a year, now says not charged when plugged in

Try to use a wall adapter and charge it for 4 hrs before you plug it in the car because it is much better if you use a wall adapter it gives more power.

The hole of +- joint for external connection cord was broken

I have found my friend who is very familiar in electionic and small appliances to help me. I can fix it too, but unfortunately I do not have any soldering tools and parts here. I will bring it to Hong Kong and let my friend to fix it. It's very cheap if we find anyone to fix it in China where Magellan is assembled . Thanks.

Problems with Magellan Maestro? 4040 GPS power connection

Hi,

I also have the same problem - the yellow power jack has broken connections. I fixed it by soldering it back. In my unit, the connection pads under the external power jack were intact and I was able to solder the jack easily. The audio out jack nearby has also come-off the PC board, along with the pads. I am not able to re-solder these back. Since the audio jack is part of the speaker circuit I have lost the text-to-speech function!

Hope you are able to fix yours.

Won't turn on

One of the wires in your power cord could be broken. If you have the a/c adapter, see if you can power up with that. If you know someone else with a working Magellan, you could borrow his cord to test your unit.

If not, check the car adapter with a continuity tester. Put one tester probe on one of the side springs of the car plug and the other probe on the outside metal of the GPS plug. If that shows continuity, place one tester probe on the end tip of the car plug and the other inside the the GPS plug.

If either of those do not show continuity, first take apart the auto side of the cord. Check the fuse and the wire to contact solder joints. If they seem okay, carefully cut back the molded plastic from the GPS end and examine the wire to solder joints. If any are broken, replace the cord or resolder the joints.
