If you turn off and on and it types the proper letters at first then types gibberish look at the printwheel for bent spokes or other damage, then check to be sure tou have the proper correction tape (DRY).

Hope this helps

What do I do when my typewriter types different letters and symbols than the keys being hit

Turn the machine off then on or hold down the "code" key and hit Q "reset" key to get the machine to type the correct keys. This usually happens because something interferes with the free rotation of the printwheel. Check to be sure the ribbon and corredtion tape are installed correctly and check to be sure none of the "fingers" on the printwheel are bent outward. If a finger is bent, bend it back. If everything looks okay, the board or power supply is going bad.

My typewriter will only type symbols and not any letters. How do I get it to type letters?

If you aren't in KBII or a language mode the printwheel homing pawl is probably broken. You need a tech.

Typewriter types different letters and symbols when pressing ALL the keys to type. How do I reset it to the original setting?

The pitch selector switch on the L. side of the keyboard should be in 10 or 12 not PS. Also press down on it and slide it a few times they do get dirty.

I don't know why the keyboard for the typewriter is tying different symbols and why when i press a letter that i want, i get a different letter?

The most common problem is the print wheel is out of place. Turn the machine off and reseat the print wheel and turn it back on. If this does not fix it you have real problems.

The letters are typing another letter for the letter you push. All symbols are doing the same.

Turn it on, allow it to home, mark the printwheel with some white out.
Turn it off and on a few times if the mark dosen't always return to the same place the homing pawl is broken, you need a tech.

Types wrong letters

It sounds like you have the 10,12,15,PS selector switch on PS with a 10, or 12 print wheel installed. Return to the left margin, move the switch to 10 and type.
