Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Spin Cycle When our washer enters the spin cycle it sounds like a jet taking off. It continues to spin, loudly, until it is done. We were told by the place we bought the washer from that it was probably the drum bearing going out and we would have to replace the whole drum to fix the problem. Is this true? How much would we be looking at spending and would we be better off buying a new washer even though this one is reasonably new in washer years. Hey, it could be worse. At least it spins.

Thank you for your helpful and quick response. When we asked the place we bought it from they suggested a sound-proof door on the laundry room until it was time to call the appliance morgue.
I think we'll follow your advice. Thanks again. And if you ever need help with a musical instrument let me know. I am a instrument repair technician.

When the washer spins out it sounds like a jet taking off. Is this a common problem? We have not tried anything yet. Wanted to see what & if we could get advice on fixing problem.

Like the two before me I bought the front loader and after a year and half the thing sounds like its going to shake through the wall.Called a Maytag repairman and was quoted about $800.00 for repair. He said to use the slower spin cycle till it breaks. Sure enough its not as noisy but this will be my last Maytag front loader.

Yes its true the main support bearing is part of the outer tub and is factory set .Dry bearing will roar until it develops a leak and eventually starts a main pulley shake that will cut through the back of the outer tubs shell. The outer tub costs about $175.00(varies)the labor (please sit down)yes, is high enough for you to go out and find your self a 15 year old Maytag top load, re-build it,scrap the front load, and never see a repairman for the next 15 Years. No joke!                             I/m happy to help you with anything you need a answer to.............Sorry about your Maytag    :(

Good Afternoon Carrie,

I understand that you are hearing a loud noise in the spin cycle as well as water leaking from your Frigidaire washer, model# GLTF1040AS0.

You will commonly hear a high pitched "jet engine" noise during the spin cycle. If you are hearing a vibrating noise, it could be your washer is not resting firmly on the floor. With this you will adjust the leveling legs so the washer is level. If after leveling your washer you are still receiving a vibrating sound, you might want to redistribute the wash load inside your appliance.

If after you redistribute the wash load, you are still hearing a loud noise in the spin cycle, I suggest contacting a local authorized technician.

For the leak I recommend contacting a technician. This way they are able to find where the leak might be coming from and repair it before there is any damage done to your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

Model GLTF167A0S0 Serial XC22704657... The final spin frequently doesn't work. I tried another wash cycle and the "high speed" spin didn't work. I can manually start the cycle and it...

If the water is pumping out fine you may need new shocks. But if it is slow pump the shaft on the pump is loose and causing the noise and possibly the spin issue. If it is loud when it does go into a spin (sounds like a jet engine) you have bad bearings. Big bucks to fix.

Whirlpool washing machine make loud noise after spin cycle quits. Noise continues until cycle winds down. Sounds like a machine gun being fired

Hello, have to tell you that most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping noise during the spin, the load of cloth may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the cloths, then restart the machine. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Thanks

My washer is very loud when it is in the spin cycle.

if the machine is more than five years old or it gets a lot of use it sounds like the drum bearings are starting to wear. If it sounds like a jet taking off when it begins to spin then thats your problem. Basically bearings have seals which over time and use will eventually allow water in and the bearings will start to wear. Now is the time to get the bearings done before they seize. It can be a laborious and expensive job

When entering spin cycle, making a loud noise. I

Check your belt it may be lose. A lose belt will cause a squealing noise and the machine spin slower or take time to come up to full speed

Loud noise during spin cycle

I bought the frigidaire affinity washer. It was quiet until it began the spin cycle, then it sounded like a jet taking off and began to bounce. Come to find out we set it up improperly. You must remove all shipping bolts on the back of the machine and make sure it is level. Ta Da!! it now runs perfectly quiet with little vibration.

Loud noise during spin cycle

this is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine
