I buy loads of Hoovers and always same problem. When I Hoover its a dusty smell and it stays around bag not full and check filter the Hoover is ok f couple days then this happens.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover F5881-900 Vacuum. It sounds to me that if you have a clean bag and filter, it sounds like you have dust in the motor section and it needs to be cleaned and or take a good blower and blow out the dirt or you may have a clog or dirt build up in the suction line and that might be causing the dusty smell. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or call the Hoover factory and ask for tech support. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover not sucking

Remove all filters and try the suction on your hand, NOT THE FLOOR!
Filters are vital to keeping the motor working.
Most vacuum sucking probs are a result of a clogged filter or filters. Sometimes, hoses also. Or a full bag.
Remove all filters, clean them thoroughly, check hose for obstruction.
Use another vacuum to remove dust/dirt (or an air compressor) from the dirty filters.
That's first step.

Are the brushes worn down too far? As they wear the springs tension gets weaker. The brushes can also get stuck inside the channel they slide in. Could also be a buildup of dust etc inside and around the internal fan or commutator, etc.

Bag light wont turn off

Hi there! The vacuum may be still sensing dirt in the cleaner. Try wiping the area down in and around the bag port. Be sure you are replacing the bag with a genuine Hoover Type Q bag. Also, when assembling the bag remember to slide the red bag door lock to the right to lock it on. If the check bag indicator light still comes on there may be an issue with the sensor on the vacuum. We would recommend taking your vacuum in to a Hoover authorized service center for repair. Hope this helps! Service Center Locator

My numatic Hoover is brilliant but it smells what part needs changing? It's not a burning smell, but a musky almost cabbage smell?

It could be the sponge filters or the dust partition that need replacing. But it might also be coming from the motor, best bet is to get it checked out.

After running for 15 minutes, the windtunnel vacuum cleaner shuts off. It will not restart until it has been off for 30 minutes. Could it be overheating for some reason. All of the filters are clean;...

It's not necessarily overheating, but the thermal-fuse is definitely tripping and it takes 30 minutes to reset. There are several causes of this (in most common order):

1. A blockage in the suction system or a full dust tank
2. Dirty filters (Don't forget to check the air outflow filter at the back)
3. A worn belt
4. A faulty thermal fuse.
5. A faulty motor

As you've stated that the dust tank is empty and the filters are clean (don't forget to check the HEPA / air outflow filter at the rear), let's look at the other options.

Check the suction is good by putting your hand over the end of the hose and seeing if it will stay attached to you hand upside down.

Next, check the belt isn't slipping. Lie the hoover on it's side and check the rollers are turning constantly and at high speed. This isn't foolproof as it doesn't account for the extra friction of the brushes on the carpet, but it's a reasonable test. A worn belt wont necessarily be cracked. It can stretch and slip without cracking. Also, when a belt is slipping, you can usually smell burning rubber.

If the hoover runs ok for 15 minutes and there is no burning smell from the motor, then it's more likely a faulty thermal fuse than the motor itself. They are replaceable but unfortunately, thermal fuses aren't always sold separately and sometimes you have to buy a new motor (!!) to get a new fuse. Hoover are one of the best manufacturers when it comes to buying spares, so you might be in luck.

I've removed faulty thermal fuses from vacuums because a spare wasn't available without buying a motor. However, I have always done this with the owners full consent after explaining to them that a safety feature has been removed and they should avoid using the vacuum for prolonged periods without letting it cool. I also test the rest of the vacuum fully before returning it.

If you want to try removing yours, it will be attached to the motor with simple spade connections, but you do this AT YOUR OWN RISK. The danger in doing this is that the motor will burn out if it gets too hot, rather than being switched off by the fuse.

My hoover smells of ammonia

Hello,
I too have a problem with a bad smell coming from my henry hound hoover, but thats probely because i haven't used a hoover bag. I took the cloth filter out, banged all the dust off, then sprayed it with 'RugDoctor' pet stain remover for carpets and upholstery. It still smells a bit, but not half as bad as befor. I have now ordered a reusable, zipable, washable cloth hoover bag especially made for Henry's. It cost £8.80 from ebay with free postage. Hope this helps Nikki.

Bag change indicater staying on and vacuum smells hot when using

I suspect there is a blockage somewhere along the pipes leading to the dust bag.
The bag full or bag change indicator measures how strong a vacuum is present at or near to the point where the bag is connected to the pipes. Under normal conditions an empty bag poses little resistance to the air passing through and therefore causes only a slight vacuum. A full bag poses a lot of resistance and therefore causes a strong vacuum which in turn makes the indicator show time to change.
If, however, there is a blockage somewhere, regardless of the state of the bag, a strong vacuum develops which causes the indicator to show as if the bag is full.
The hot smell is proably a result of the motor having to work hard trying to overcome the blockage.
Try to look into all the pipes - you may need to do a bit of dismantling and/or strech out flexible pipes to do so - to see if there's anything stuck. Also try some (careful and gentle !) poking through the pipes with something like an un-ravelled wire coat hanger, but take great care when poking through the flexible pipes as these can be ripped and then you'll have a differnt problem !

Hoover hygiene full bag light is on but the bag is empty

hi,

theres other filters that may be dirty and need to be washed or replaced below or around the bag, study the owners manual for alternate filter locations, basically the machine isnt getting the airflow it needs and is letting you know. The hepa filter is the most expensive, try and run the vac without it and see if the light goes out. Its okay to run it without but I suggest vacumming then dusting, not the other way around..
replace it as soon as possible
