Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

1 Answer

I lost internet service on Sat. I tried resetting the modem and then reset the router by pushing the reset button. When service was resotred on Sun. the router wasn't sending to my laptop. I called Linksys and they said the router was out of warranty and I would have to pay 30.00 for them to reset the router. This seems pretty amazing. Isn;t there a simpler, cheaper way??? Chris Welch

You should contact your internet provider (ISP) support to assist you in setting up your router...should cost you nothing or
you can try to set you laptop ethernet adapter TCP/IP properties to DHCP, i.e. no ip/mask/gateway specified

My Dir 412 router was working good then all of a sudden it lost internet connection every time i go to connect it says network busy and the little light stays orange help.

First try a new LAN cable between you router and the internet modem. Reboot both your modem and router. Connect directly to you internet modem to make certain it is staying connected to the internet. If not then you have a modem service issue. If OK, then The final solution is a factory reset of your router. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can ssets-up form scratch.

We've had this router and been using it for a year w/o any problems. We have lost internet connection, for an unknown reason and don't know how to fix it.

Most routers setup is under 192.168.1.1 in your browser

or 192.168.0.1

If you can give me more details on what kind of router you have i can give you a username and password to go into it

Wireless connectivity suddenly lost

Have you tried power cycling the router and the modem? if not:

1. Turn off your modem and router by unplugging the power cord at the back of the devices.

2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the router vice versa

3. After a minute, replug the power cord at the back of your modem then reconnect the ethernet cable at the back of the modem as well.

4. After a minute, replug the power cord and the ethernet cable at the back of your router.

5. Try to test the connection.

Warning: You can reset the router if you know that you can reconfigure it back to connect to the internet. If you don't know how to set the router back to connect to the internet, it would be ok to you to not to do step 6.

6. If it didn't work, You can reset the modem. Press the reset button at the back of your router while it's turned on, wait for 15 seconds after that, unplug the power cord at the back of the router while the reset button is still pressed, wait for 15 seconds after that, replug the power cord at the back of your router while the reset button is still pressed, wait for 15 seconds again then release the reset button after 15 seconds.

7. Reconfigure your router's settings to communicate to your modem. ( I don't know if you have cable internet connection, but if so, you can just clone the mac address of your modem to connect to the server, if you are using DSL if it's asking for a username and passowrd, just use the PPPoE type of configuration in your router)

8. If it failed, try to update the firmware of your router.

Will not connect to the internet from a wireless router

check to see if there are any DNS servers specified in the connection settings. if there arent, it will not allow you to access the internet. also, try typing in an ip address to a website to see if you can connect (try 69.73.158.101 and you should get a Plesk page). If that doesnt work, try resetting your modem. Most DSL modems have a button on the back that you push in while turning the modem on. Most cable modems have a button on the top that you use to turn it on and off. While holding the button, unplug the modem and plug it back in. Continue holding the button for about 20-30 seconds and that will reset it. Many times, a modem needs to be reset when connected to a router.

I have a linksys wrt54g router. Lost power the other day and now router does not work with cable modem. All the settings are the same on the router, power, wlan, and internet lights are on. Tried to reset...

Check to make sure that your route has DHCP turned on.  Save your settings and turn everything off.  Power on you modem and wait at least one minute, if your modem has a link light, it should come on and stay solid once it connect with your ISP.  Then turn on your router and wait another minute for it to sync with your cable modem.  Finally, turn on your computer.  Remember that everytime that you plug something new into your cable modem, you have to reset your power.

Problem with network

Make sure the physical connections are correct. Modem connected to the Internet Port of the router and your PC to port number 1 on the Linksys router as well. Try to reset the router. Hold the reset button at the back of the router for about 20 seconds. After that, unplug the power to the router and to the cable modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Plug the modem first, wait for the lights to stop blinking then plug in the router. Check if the internet works fine again.

No internet when using router

Your modem has already registered itself with the MAC address of your computer, so it doesn't recognize the MAC of your router. In cases like this you have two options:
  1. Configure your router to clone the MAC of your computer
  2. Connect the router to your modem and do a soft reset so the modem registers itself with the MAC of your router.
Clone MAC - Go to your routers Admin web interface and on the main page you should see the "Router MAC Address" section at the bottom. Select "Use Computer MAC Address" and click "Apply" and your router should reboot and you'll be back in business.

Soft Reset
- Plug the modem into the router via the ethernet cable then do a soft reset.

To do a soft reset, do the following:
  1. pull the power cord from the modem
  2. count to 5
  3. hold down the Reset EMR button on the modem
  4. plug back in the power
  5. count to 30 while holding the Reset EMR button (the modem should be blinking a lot)
  6. release the Reset EMR button and see what happens.
