Normal power settings call for a power save mode. This will allow the hard drive to spin down, the monitor to go blank, but keeps the computer in STANDBY mode until there is an input from either the keyboard or the mouse.
Sometimes you have to hit the power button.
This setting can be modified in many ways.
right click on your desktop, select properties and select the screen saver tab, at the bottom is the power setting button. you can configure how you want your system to respond to your schedule.

When caps lock blinks it means the computer is either having a problem or DESPERATELY needs to tell you something (like when you run diagnostics and encounter a error). Hope this helps!

On-screen keyboard problem

I think you might have your Hotkeys on, try disabling them

Hotkeys will only work while the SmartNAV software is running. Keyboard keys assigned to Hotkeys will not perform their normal keyboard function while they are being used as Hotkeys. For example, if the CAPS LOCK keyboard key is assigned to Left Click, it will only perform Left Clicks while the SmartNAV software is running. It will resume performing the normal CAPS LOCK function when the SmartNAV software is closed, or if the Hotkey is re-assigned or disabled.

Compaq turns on cap locklight on f12 light on and power light on black screen

Have you tested this laptop using an external monitor? If your laptop works good with an external monitor, it means your laptop screen is dead and needs to be replaced. If the external monitor displays black screen , it means there is something wrong with the GPU and or motherboard.

Laptop hp6730b when powered on the flash lock iconA and the flashing icon1 appears and the screen is black and want boot

Being an Hp, it has overheated and unsoldered the GPU from the board. Remove the main board and send it away for a GPU re-balling repair. Take a look on ebay for the re-balling service in your country.

Disable anti theft

It sounds like the battery isn't charging. These laptops are famous for breaking the power plug solder joints. If the joints break than the battery wont charge and no power will get to computer to start it. The repair is to take it apart and resolder the plug joints. I would however buy a new one on eBay and solder it in instead of trying to fix the old one. Sometimes they break inside the plug and you cant see it, to find it you need to do a continuity test with a digital voltmeter.

My brother disabled my computer. he took something out of the tower. when i turn on my computer, teh screen stays black and the light on the on button blinks. what did he take out?

There is no way of knowing, he may have disconnected some power leads, taken the memory out, you will just have to get him to tell you. If he wont, take something out of his pc (or misplace something he likes till he tells you :)
Good luck

Dell Vostro A860 - Booting to Black screen

Hi, disconnect the laptop from AC outlet, now carefully remove the keypads of your laptop, get a low temperature dryer and dry all the keypads and the panel of the keypads gently, do something to the power button too.

If the problem still persist, i advice you get a technician to help check if any or device is damaged and help you fix it.

I wish you best of luck.

My fujitsu siemens amilo notebook screen black.

Check num lock key of laptop press num lock if numlock key is on and off when you press it then dispaly working fine only issue with screen resolution .
For that when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode.
Then go to start menu ->control panel->display->settings.
Change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok.
But if num lock is constant when you press numlock key then you need to refix RAM memory.Open back cover of laptop then refix RAM memory.
Then check if still same issue then pull cmos cell from motherboard then check again if still same then try with another RAM .
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key if you are able to see bios screen then you not need to open back cover of laptop only make sure SATA is disabled and your harddrive is detected in bios.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Power comes on but the screen stay`s black dose it have a screen lock or stand by

Black screens can be caused by many things the first bit of video runs through the ram, so try changing the ram or swaping it. the next thing that causes a black screen is the LCD Inverter or the back light bulb to test this is take a flash light and shine it on the screen at an angle and see of you can make any faint images out. Next dis-assemble the laptop and see if the processor is heating up or staying cool.

Hope this helps!
