Question about Dell Wireless Keyboard Optical Mouse w0147

2 Answers

I have had my Dell computer with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse for about 5 years - the mouse stopped working. Normally when it stops, I change the batteries and it works again. This time nothing - so it's not the batteries. I'm currently navigating using the mouse - keys (not convenient). Is it time for a new mouse?

Since the keyboard is also wireless, and there is one device receiving signals from both the mouse and the keyboard, and the keyboard is working - could that be necessary? Clearly, I am not at all technical - but could something be wrong with the mouse itself? It has no wheel or ball, there is a red light that indicates connection to the reader, and it has a second "bulb" that I presume takes the place of the ball. This bulb is not lit - however when the mouse was working I never really noticed if it looked any different than it does now.

Is the mouse driver separate from the keyboard driver? They are both wireless and communicate with the same reader(?) I am not technical - there are two lights or bulbs on the bottom of the mouse - a red light that I believe indicates connectivity with the reader and a second bulb that controls the movement (I think). I never noticed if this second bulb was lit - it is not now. Could this be the problem?

Yes unfortunately it means the mouse has failed, especially if the keyboard continues to function. If you want just a replacement wireless mouse, that is what I would recommend... plus you can get a much "cooler" mouse, better looking and better functioning for a low price. Check this one out:

Underneath the keyboard is a little 're-set' button. When you push this it re-synchs with the wireless antenna. Make sure you hold it down long enough fo rthe keyboard to synch, usually about 5 - 7 seconds.

Dell wireless mouse and keyboard-no instructions

Most Bluetooth keyboards and mice are just Plug-n-Play and does not require any driver installation. You need to isolate the problem, please follow the steps below:

1. Make sure that the wireless adapter of your wireless KB and mouse is properly connected to the USB port of the computer.

2. Make sure that the USB ports of your computer are working.

3. Use fresh batteries for the KB and mouse.

4. After connecting the wireless dongle to the computer, turn on your KB and mouse (there should be an ON/OFF switch underneath).

5. Briefly press the connect button on the wireless dongle and then hold down the connect button underneath the mouse for five seconds and then release it.

6. Do the same steps for the KB.

Have a good day!

Dell wireless mouse

I had this problem, but only when my batteries were dead. Check the contacts on the batteries to make sure they're working. Are all the buttons failing too? It might be a broken microswitch (or whatever they use these days). It sounds like you're looking at a new mouse if it's not contacts. Unless someone else on this forum has different ideas.

Wireless keyboard numbers on right not working and wireless mouse light not on

My Dell wireless keyboard doesn't work. I replaced the batteries in it and pressed the green button on the back of it then the button on the wireless thing plugged into the computer. That light blinks for a few seconds then stops but the keyboard still doesn't work. My wireless mouse works fine.

Wireless keyboard is blinking a blue light but nothing else is working

Normally Dell keyboard require a wireless uSB plug in that connects to your computer and there is usually a small button on both the keyboard and the end of the connector. Press them both. Normally preplacing batteries causes the connection to be disrupted.
