SOURCE: Water filter
Its on the bottom left of your fridge. 1. Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille. 2. Pull the filter straight out. 3. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter. 4. Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and turn the cap until it snaps into place. NOTE: You can run the dispenser without a filter. Your water will not be filtered. Simply insert the cap all of the way into the base grille and rotate the cap until it is firmly in place. 5. Remove the protective covers from the O-rings. 6. Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop back out when the filter is fully engaged.

I had the same problem with my fridge for a while. After changing the filter twice, I determined it wasn't that. I ended up paying about $250 several years ago and called the service repair man. All he did was replace water hose coil reservoir inside the fridge. If you open the fridge and pull out the bottom drawers, you should be able to see the hose coiled up in the fridge. This is your cold water reservoir. If you look very closely at the coil, you might be able to see the mold inside the transparent coil. Replacing the coil fixed my problem. You can order the coil and replace it yourself and save yourself lots of money. The reservoir coil part number is 2209687. Good luck.

Hi there, I noticed the same condition when I left the filter in ours a little too long. The optimal performance from the filter is achieved (I have found) when you change it after 3 months. This is about the same amount of time it takes for the light to change from green to red on the filter light.
Hope this helps. ~Steve

SOURCE: Water filter question
WOW! I'd say that the filter is definately due for replacement.
The manufacturer recommends the filter be changed every 6-8 months, as with ice and water dispensers in the door, folks tend to use the chilled water and ice more often, hence you get alot of gallons of water thru the fridge each month.
Once you replace the filter, you'll need to flush out the lines, (see the instructions with the new filter) to get rid of any loose carbon in the filter element, but once you done this, you should also notice better water flow and better tasting water and ice cubes too.
I tend to change my ice/water filter on my fridge every year when I change my smoke detector batteries. That way, I don't forget, sort of like my personal "once-a-year" house task list to change batteries, filters, resetting timers, etc., etc.
It's a good idea to change these smaller filters at a minimum of once a year, as they are no longer providing the filtration you want, and can actually be letting some of the contaminents fow out and into your water and cubes.
Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
