You can confirm this if you touch the condenser and after 1 hour you had switch it on, then the temperature of condenser should be about 130-140 F. If it is less than 120 F then you had a Freon leak.

Loss of the refrigerant charge will also cause the compressor to overheat. It is the cool return gas coming back to the compressor that helps to keep it from overheating.
There are also many other things that can go wrong with your fridge and I have not come close to exhausting the possibilities here. I have just touched on the most common problems in a very basic way.
There are some basic trouble shooting things that can be done very easily. Most problems are above out of the range of comfort for many homeowners and professional help should be consulted before any attempt is made at repairs. Remember also, that the release of refrigerant gases into the atmosphere is a federal offense in the US. Proper care must always be taken to minimize the release of any gases. A license is also required to handle refrigerants. Make sure that the professional you call has the proper certifications to handle refrigerants properly

If the compressor and the fan, both are running and there is no cooling then the gas has leaked out somehow. It has to refilled by the fridge mechanic.

No, there is no way to test. Just the symptoms.

MZD2766GES compressor not firing

Is your compressor giving sounds like a buzz followed by a click periodically? Is the compressor exterior warm/hot? Most likely the compressor start relay assembly is bad, or the compressor is locked up, (frozen internally). If you connect an amp probe to the red wire of the compressor, and the momentary reading meets or exceeds the LRA rating on the compressor tag, most likely the compressor is at fault. Maytag fridge not cooling

If the ref or freezer is too warm and you turn the dial to make it colder the compressor should come on. If the ref or freezer is not cold like you say the compressor should be on all the time. You should hear it, but you can definitely feel it and it should be very warm after a short while.
If the compressor does not get warm unplug the ref with the compressor running and plug it back in immediately. A good compressor should not start up right away.
If it is running and not getting warm and does start right up after unplugging it and plugging it back in it is inefficient and not compressing the freon gas enough and therefore not cooling enough.
The fan in the freezer should be running as should the fan under the refrigerator.
The condenser should be warm and the fan should be blowing[drawing] air across it when the compressor is on.
You don\'t repair compressors and to recharge them correctly is expensive.

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. The relay is a small usually black cube shaped electrical part plugged into the compressor or wired to it nearby. It may appear burnt or rattle when shaken if it's bad. The two connections should show continuity with an amp meter. If it's good then it's most likely the compressor causing the problem.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
If it's iced up really heavy you have an auto defrost problem. Melt the ice with a hairdryer and check the defrost system.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.

is it frozen up? do you have any air flow thru the air tunnel from the freeze to the fridge? Check your air flow with the door switch pushed in. also check to see if the damper door opens... 1) if it is iced up you have a defrost problem. most likely a defrost timer. Turn off or unplug untill all the ice has melted off the evaporator back of the freezer..plug back in and it will work fine untill the ice builds up again. if this work you do have a defrost problem.. if not let me know and we can go deeper...
