I have a 47lg70 ug 47" tv. The set up menu randomly pops up. It then start scrolling through some of the other menues. No changes are ever made. Also, the volume will not adjust, none of the contols on the side of the TV will work and I can't get it to program with the universal remote. The tv is 18 months old.

You will need to replace the Sub PCB. Its about a $50 fix if you do it yourself.

You can find the part here.

Its part 510.

This circuit board controls the volume, channel, menu buttons, ect.

I have been recently having a very similar problem, and was wondering if when this happened to you did the tv also flip back and forth between the menu and the truemotion demo??
Mine will pop up and show a screen that shows no program info available (similar to if you are changing channel but it is running through hdmi) then it will change to trumotion demo for a few moments before randomly navigating the menu by itself and same as yours, no changes ever occur.
I have found that by continuously pressing the menu button on the side of the tv, it will prevent this until you let go........
I checked with LG, but unfortunately no recall :-(

Sorry, missed one vital piece of info, the fix......LOL.....

As previously stated, yes you can repair yourself for less than $50 for the repair part, however if you are tight on budget I did find that it is possible to open the TV and unplug the wire harness that runs form the side keys, into the PCB located behind the power switch and the TV will function perfectly without the side controls meaning that you must use the remote to perform any functions, but it is a free fix that will get you by until you can get the replacement part, and is effective at clearing up the random menu issues.

Similar issue: TV "menu's" would intermittently/unexpectedly pop up & jump around randomly, might change input modes, might turn itself on, demo mode (Tru Motion) pop up, buttons on side would work intermittently. Remote inop.
Replaced the circuit board that buttons connect to (includes on off button), no change. Unplugged the wires to the side buttons, issue resolved. TV no longer 'beeps' when turned on manually.

Thank you so much for your post! I thought I was going to have to send my tv in for a very expensive trip to the repair shop and then I found your post. My tv was turning itself on randomly and would constantly flash "this function is not available now" on the screen. I knew it was the touch buttons on the side of the tv causing the problem but when I called LG to get some help all they told me was don't take the tv apart, bring it to such and such shop (for a couple hundred dollar bill I'm sure since I'm past warranty!!). I took a couple screws off the back left side of the tv, unplugged the wiring harness that ran from the side touch buttons to the pcb and my tv works perfectly again. I never used those buttons anyways so that was the perfect fix for me. Thanks so much for posting, you saved me a huge repair bill!

I have this problem too and it's about the same age as yours. Did you ever get it solved? Or did you have to take it to a shop?

I have the same problem and my TV is the same age as your. You will need to contact the LG customer service department and report this. As it is a potenital recall and should be repaired by an LG tech for free.

If the menu pops up at random it likely is the menu button on the set being bad--not the plastic button but the switch under it.

You in USA---? I know two people in St. Louis named Nikki and nick.
