There is apostion setting inside the wiper motor assembly that allows it to park in auto mode at the designated lower part of the windscreen.
This is a semi contact which activated when the motor moves from start and the power transfers to the contact .As the motor moves down to park and if the switch is off the connection cuts off for the blades to park.
You can remove and check this contact plate mounted on the nylon circular wheel which is driven by the motor spiral gear. adjust and set, it can be a contact problem.

Tip

Replacing Wiper Blades or Not

Do not replace your wiper blades until you have tried this, get some warm soapy water, soft all purpose cloth. Hose down your front and rear windscreen (if fitted with wiper blades) with normal water, clean the windscreen as you would when washing the vehicle. Get your cloth and dip it into warm soapy water, if your wiper arm stays upright put it in that position other wise lift it up and put a piece of towel or similar under it. Now with the soapy cloth give the wiper blade edge a good scrub, up and down, hold the blade itself with one hand on one end, it may slide out, you will notice the cloth getting black, you are cleaning off all the dirt that is stuck on the wiper blade, simple as that. It is usually that dirt which causes your wiper blades not to clean properly, you will eventually need to replace it but give it a go, you will be surprised.

Wiper blades stuck in up position on my 2005 Hyandai Tucson

Disconnect the wiring harness to the motor and check for power and ground with a 12 volt test light. If they both are good, the wiper motor has most likely failed.

I went to Jiffy Lube, and they did something free that made mine work again. Granted I rarely use it anyway(I'm in the desert), but so far, so good. No idea what they did, but it can't have been very difficult.

My windshield wipers are stuck in an upright position when they are turned off. they run fine when they are on. what is the problem and is it an easy fix

The wiper blade arm may have stripped the splines that keep it in position on the wiper motor shaft.Sometimes you need a special
arm puller to remove the blade arm, but if it's stripped,it will pull off pretty easy. If yopu take it off, look inside to see if the splines are stripped inside, where the motor shaft holds the arm.It will look all
rounded off, and not sharp ridges.Make sure you start taking it off,
with the arms in their normal down position, and the car off.
Good luck.

  1. REMOVE RR WIPER BLADE
    1. Raise the rear wiper blade to the position as shown in the illustration where the meshing of the claw disengages with a clicking sound. NOTE: Be careful not to break the claw.
    2. Pull straight the rear wiper blade to vehicle's left from the wiper arm. NOTE: Do not fold the rear wiper arm with the rear wiper blade removed from it.1722d05.gif

  1. REMOVE REAR WIPER RUBBER
    1. Place the rear wiper with the rear end of the rubber protruded from the blade stopper as shown in the illustration. NOTE: Do not pull out the wiper rubber forcibly, as the backing plates will become deformed or the blade claws will become damaged. HINT: The rubber can be easily pulled out by pushing the middle area of the blade.

2005 impala windshield wiper

the wirpers are connected to a shaft. the shaft is connected to a motor. The shaft must have turned and wipers were stuck and didn't move. So you will need to pull of each wiper arm and reposition with wipers turned off.
