Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a new Frigidaire Model FRT21IL6JM 21 CF top freezer refrigerator. When the compressor turns on - the fan covering in the freezer compartment rattles (vibrates) loud enough to be irritating. When I put my hand on it the rattle stops. I have place a small wooden spacer between the ice cube tray & the outside of the wire shelf to make the ice tray make contact with the fan housing to stop the rattle. Can I drive a self tapping screw through the fan housing to stop the rattle? How can I fix this?

SOURCE: Hidden Ice build-up inside plastic bottom cover of freezer

Generally, icing is the result of too much water vapor inside the unit, blockage of the circulation channels and too much packing in of the box.  The water vapor is generally caused by: uncapped items in the fridge, opening the door too often, humid conditions, bad door seals.  There is of course, there is a possibility that the defrost cycle on the unit is not working.  About once a day, depending on the brand, you should notice that the fans and compressor don't run and you should hear a bit of creaking, sloshing or other strange noises as the ice melts.  If this is not happening, your defrost timer or the coil it heats could be bad.

SOURCE: ice maker flooded top freezer compartment

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze

SOURCE: GE refrig/freezer dispenser makes ice, but no dispensing of water

The dispensor water line , is probably trying to freeze , inside the door . raise the freezer control slightly warmer , to keep this from happening . May take 2 or 3 raisings to find the proper temp . Also , you can order a dispensor heat kit , pt # WR49X10173 , which comes with installation instructions .

Sound like a clogged valve or a dirty water filter. Change the filter then try it. Good luck.

Water leaks inside food compartment

Your fan has stopped working. You need to either replace it or see if your defrost timer is working.

FRIGIDAIRE: THE TOP FREEZER WORKS GOOD BUT THE REFRIDGERATOR SECTION WILL ONLY COOL DOWN TO 49 DEGREES

Most likely the defrost timer part number click here=> 215846602 located inside the fresh food compartment is defective. Below is a photo location number 23 is the timer. There should be a small opening below the control panel with a plastic plug covering the hole. Pry the plug away and with a flathead screwdriver turn slowly colckwise until the compressor stops. The compressor shouls remain off for about 25 minunites and during that time the freezer should be in defrost. Open the freezer door and listen for sounds of sizzling or crackling. If nothing happens then the defrost time may be the most likely part to replace. If compressor does not restart after that time simply turn the timer again slowly until it restarts. If you should need parts or review photos of your model click here=> Point and Click Appliance Repair and simply enter your model number or part number into the model and search feature. If this has been helpful please let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fan running but neither refrig or freezer is getting cold.

Your refrigerator may be stuck in defrost cycle. I know it has a defrost timer part number 215846602 Most times they are located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Sometimes below fridge and behind kick plate. The thermostat could be defective also. You can check that by unplugging the refrigerator remove cover and checking continuity between the two male connections located on the rear side of thermostat control turned as cold as you can turn it. Or you can join the two wires together and plug refrigerator back in to see if compressor comes on. When you find the defrost time turn clockwise slowly until the refrigerator starts. If these don't work let me know and we will do some more test. Sea Breeze

Freezer not cooling

there is an external fan near the compressor usually at the bottom of the unit on the back side and if this fan does not run the freezer will not freeze. u can also look for a defrost timer located near the bottom of the refrigerator with the door open or just under the freezer in the refrigerator compartment. It will look like a plastic screw that can be turned only one way with a flathead screwdriver because of its design. Some times these timers just get stuck and will work again if u rotate it with a screwdriver one revolution or two. Allow an hour to see if freezer works after tuning. Please rate me

LG Fridge Freezer display has CF error code

Turns out a CF ER is a Compressor Fan problem.
Had a look and the fan was not turning, although it spins freely. Apparently it's a 3 phase 12v fan. I was able to get a resistance measurement across it but didn't know what to expect.
This also explains why it seemed a bit quieter and why the water is a bit warmer sometimes. The valve for the water dispenser is right beside the fan and it's getting pretty hot in there at the moment.

Does outside temperature affect performance of freezer

Top mount refrigerator installed in a garage and the food in the freezer is defrosting when
the temperature in the garage goes below 55 degrees fahrenheit.
On top mount refrigerators you cycle the compressor and fan/fans from the food
compartment temperature. When the room temperature gets colder than 55 F, you have
long off times waiting for the food compartment to warm enough to trip the cold control.
This long off time is allowing the freezer temperature to get high enough that food can start
to defrost.
There is a kit for refrigerators installed in applications where the temperature can go as low
as 34 F and still maintain good freezer temperatures. The kit part number is 5303918301
and it contains a heater that mounts in the control box and an instruction sheet advising
how to install the heater.
Kit 5303918301 contains:
Part # 5303950194 Instruction sheet
Part # 241532101 Heater

Cold freezer/warm refrigerator

Same problem with Frigidaire Gallery model#GLRT182SAW5 (dated 2002 on back of case)

Vents were blocked with ice. Vents (from top compartment to lower) located behind light. You can check by poking a chopstick up the (2) holes; be careful not to hit fan blades.

Solution:

- took freezer coil cover off in back; checked that defrost heater element was working (marked and rotated the timer in the hole next to light); checked that fan working. Found ice in the vents and defrost drip area. Got it out with hair dryer.

- cleaned compressor coils in back (check fan is rotating; also tweaked some of the compressor tubing bends to make them more smooth - read somewhere about a manufacturing defect ...); blew out drip tube from defroster while down there.

- Set the freezer control to WARM and the refrig control to COLD (THIS SHOULD IMPROVE AIR FLOW FROM TOP TO BOTTOM).

- Put thermometers in top and bottom. Checked that refrigerator cycles (not running continuously). Checked that cold air is coming down from (2) vents behind light.

OK: so far, so good. Lower compartment is 40 or under. Top is under 18.

CONCLUSION: Suspect marginal design. Had problems with another similar model where defroster ice doesn't drain correctly, pools and refreezes. Leading to blocked vents as well as blocked defroster drain and similar problem including dripping water from top to bottom and warm bottom.

MAYBE KEEPING THE FREEZER CONTROL AT WARM GETS AROUND THE PROBLEM?? ANYWAY, ITS WORKING FOR ME FOR NOW !!
