Clean your Pad with a moist wet tissue and dry.
In Control Panel -> Devices manager -> uninstall the mouse/pad driver and either use detect new plug-and-play hardware via the top of the tree in the device manager listing (eg. you Computer name) context menu or simply reboot to force a new re-install of the driver for your Pad and Mouse and see if it solves the problem.
If your Pad is the Synaptic type, install your Netbook driver for the Pad.
Hope that re-installing the driver and Pad utility solve your issue let me know how you go.
ps. Worst case, your Aspire One should still be under manufacturer warranty.

How do you stop the cursor from jumping on an elitebook folio 9470m

go to control panel / mouse to open the mouse properties window. along the top of the window should be several tabs. select the tab for touchpad or maybe advanced properties. this tab allows you to adjust the touch sensitivity of the mousepad, momentum, and other properties. adjusting to make it less sensitive may reduce the tendency of the cursor to jump or move on its own. failing that, go for an external mouse!

There should be a way to reduce the sensitivity of your touch pad. Check your manual. There might be an application in your control panel. Check there too.

Jumping cursor. while i type, it skips around, usually to the left, and at the top of the page area.

Hi,

Are you using an external mouse, Please try to change your mouse, I have experience the same thing before, it seems my mouse does it. If your not using external mouse but rather your laptops mouse pad, Please try to do further testing by touching the pad in different portion and check if the pointer behaves abnormally.

My cursor jumps back to the beginning when i'm trying to type. i'm constantly having to backspace and correct and reset my cursor. any suggestions?

Disable your touchpad if you consistently have this problem.

When you are typing something, and you suddenly touch the touchpad (tapping this touchpad moves the cursor) then your cursor will suddenly change position which then mess up your typing.

If you don'r have an external mouse connected, better be careful not to touch the touchpad. If you have an external mouse, better disable this touchpad.

Hello !!

I have seen this problem many times and the most common reason is Spyware or Malware.

So, download, update and run from these sites: http://www.spybot.com and http://www.malwarebytes.com. With Malwarebytes, be certin to choose the free software.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
What kind of mouse are you using with your laptop? Are you using the built-in one or an external? If using an external is it possibly one with "red light" underneath instead of a ball? If so make sure that you are using it on a MATT surface. Even a slightly glossy surface has a tendency to make the cursor jump all over the place.
Also possibly your palms might be touching the internal mouse if it has a touch-pad (I'm assuming it does). You may want to disable that pad if so.
Let me know if any of this makes sense? :)
Thanks,
Kaj

Cursor jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:
  1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.
  2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.
    1. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.
    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.
    3. Click Mouse.
    4. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab. (Figure 1)
      10583022.gif
      Figure 1: Pointer Speed
    5. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.
  3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.
