SD cards max out at 2GB. The XP50 will also work with SDHC cards, 4GB to 32GB, and with SDXC cards, 64GB on up.

I can't seem to format my C875 easyshare with a 4gb kodak memory card. Help!

The problem is that your camera is only compatible with SD cards, not SDHC cards. You bought a larger card for your older camera, not noticing that it was SDHC (or not knowing that it mattered). The new card doesn't work, not because it or the camera is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD.
Cards of 4Gb are generally SDHC.
Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC.

(There are exceptions. Sometimes, manufacturers make 4Gb SDHC cards but some have errors; they disable half of the chip and sell it as 2Gb, but it's still SDHC. 4Gb cards are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper, but 4Gb SD cards do exist. They are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it. I don't recommend looking for one, because of the problems.)

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it.

Purchased new memory card. camera screen said to format card, camera will not format card please isnsert another. new card is kodak 8gb sdhc. it works in a different kodak camera

The DX6490 works with MMC and SD cards. While an SDHC card will fit into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. Some Kodak cameras can use SDHC cards, but the DX6490 is not one of them. You need to go with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

It will not format a 4gb SanDisk SD card

Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. The DX6490 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to go with SD cards 2GB and smaller.

Is the kodak dx7440 compatible with the sdhc cards?

Hi. Kodak DX7440 is using standard SD card or MMC card up to 1GB (some says it will read 2 to 4GB standard SD but I haven't tried). SDHC is high capacity, 4GB above and will not work on your camera.

I have a DX6490 Kodak camera and just purchased 4GB SDHC sandisk card but camera keeps 'saying' it needs to be formatted but it doesn't format it when I go thru the menu to try.

The DX6490 is designed to work with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they will not work. You need to use SD cards 2GB and smaller.

What is the sd card compacity limit for the DX6490. I have a 8 gigbite sd card and it just keeps asking me to format it. After formating it i put it in a card reader and it still has the pictures i put on...

The DX6490 accepts SD cards, which top out at 2GB. Cards bigger than that are technically SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they will not work. SD cards will work in SDHC devices, though. So, you're limited to 2GB.

It's a hardware thing, which no amount of firmware updating can change.

SDHC 4gb card brings up error file e00100 in kodak c530

I would guess the camera is too old a model to read a card that big.
Also, not every model SD card will work in every model camera.
Sometimes the cameras are picky.
