Question about Husqvarna "Chain Saw - 16" Bar, 3 Hp

1 Answer

I have a Husky 359 saw. It cranks, but will not continue to run. When the trigger is pulled, the chainsaw sputters, and eventually. I have ruled out the fuel filter, air filter. What now?

How to adjust a carbureter on a 359 e-tech

That depends on where you bought the saw. if in CA, there will be limiter caps on the adjustment screws that will limit how much you can turn them. The saw will have to be taken to an authorized Husky dealer.

How do you remove the clutch from a model 359 chainsaw?

There is a special tool available, or you can insert a flat blade screw driver into one of the slots in the clutch centre ( they are designed for this ) and strike the end of the screw driver with a suitable hammer againt the compression of the saw, the jarring will eventually loosen the clutch, it is a left hand thread.

2nd use of chainsaw pp3516avx, it won't start, choke lever will not stay extended. I followed the instructions to start and nothing works

The choke system is connected to the half throttle position, if you lift the throttle trigger the choke pull will automatically return, whilst trying to start do not lift the throttle trigger, the starting procedure is, pump the primer bulb as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb, pull the choke pull fully out, this will switch the saw on and engage the half throttle, crank the engine until it fires once, do not continue to pull,it will actually not run on full choke, if you do continue to crank with the choke fully out, you will very quickly flood the engine, now push the choke fully in, now crank the engine until it fires up, lift the throttle trigger once, this will dissengage the half throttle, and it should now come down to idle.

I have difficulty starting my Gardenline 49.3cc chainsaw. Please let me know what the correct starting proceedure is.

Genral starting procedure on a chain saw is as follows, put fresh fuel into the fuel tank, top up the chain oil tank, switch the ignition on, if the saw has a half throttle position on the trigger lock this, if the saw has a primer depress this as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb, pull the choke fully out, if it has a deco valve push this in, now place the saw on the ground with the chain brake on and crank the engine ( always have the saw body between you and the cutter bar,NO left hand starting, NO drop starting ) the engine will only fire once on full choke, do not continue to crank engine after the first fire or you will flood the engine, push the choke back in, crank the engine until it fires up and runs, release the chain brake and blip the throttle to release the half throttle device.

Piston seizure in Husky 359 chain saw-how to remove old top end, evaluate damage and install new piston and ring or all new top end.

Probably going to be a paired piston&cylinder http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUSQVARNA-359-357-CYLINDER-AND-PISTON-KIT-47MM-/140580138020
you will need to replace both.. remove your muffler and see scorched(black streaks) piston, fused rings. Remove air filter and carb to see scored cylinder wall(on hot side)

Husky starts but won't run off choke. mod 359, cleaned carb, gas, new plug. parts manual doesn't show where hose from intake boot goes?

There are 2 lines from the fuel tank on my 359. The one with the fuel filter on the bottom goes to the carburetor. The second goes back down through the plastic housing and appears to be capped off underneath, probably a vent.
Illustration J shows 2 lines.

Below the carburetor the is a u shaped hose both connections are within 3/4' of one another below the carburetor. I think it is pn 537 24 65-01 on detail G. HTH

Husky viprating on tick over and now wont start

I think you are saying it sputters but won't run. Once it attempts to fire open the choke or it may flood. My 359 start:
Cold: pull out choke control, pull starter (usually twice) while listening for attempt to start. Once it fires push choke control in and
continue pulling (usually once more).
Warm: pull out choke control (sets fast idle), push choke control in, pull starter.

Once flooded these are a bear to start.

Starting problems

You didn't mention the type of saw you had if it's even indeed a saw. I have found solutions for issues such as yours. First of all have you heard of vapour lock? Some smaller saws with the gas tanks in the front next to the cutter bar get extremely hot and when it runs out of gas and you refill it (let it cool down first), it may have a little vapour lock and sometimes vapour lock is hard to clear up. Give it full throttle with no choke on when you pull the starter rope. This may help. Also have someone qualified to test the ignition spark. Also, these smaller saws will run hot and the module breaks down. This is not a nice problem because there are so many factors affecting it to have this problem. Good luck with your unit.

What should compression be on husky 359?

This saw needs aproxamitly 150 psi. Any less than 120 and you will have problems with the saw breaking up at high rpm and stalling under load. Pop the muffler off and take a peek at the piston and the cylinder walls for scoring. If its scored it will need a new jug and piston, the kit from Husqvarna, includes everything you will need, should run from $175.00 to $200.00. Hope this helps, feel free to email me with any other questions, we are a Husqvarna dealer/repair center and can help you out with that saw. It is a great saw all the features of the XP line at a fraction of the cost. It has the 3 piece crank and magnesium case. It is definitely worth putting the money into this saw!
