Question about Craftsman 42 in. Deck 19.5hp Lawn Tractor

1 Answer

Ihave a craftsman 20 horsepower riding lawn mower. It starts fine but it barely moves. It stops moving. Seems to have no power, especially if on a slight slope. I had a new clutch installed, but still does the same. Can anyone please tell me what the problem is. Is it the transmission?

Either your drive belt is loose or your transmission is going bad.
I would have another mechanic, not the one who installed your "new clutch" take a look at it.

I would lower the deck to the lowes setting and look between the frame and the deck toward rear wheels and check the drive belt it sounds like it is slipping or busted.

My Craftsman riding lawn mower LT2000 (2002/2003) stopped moving. The drive belt seems to be loose. The engine starts and cutting blade engages fine. Was working fine but stopped working when it started...

there should be a drive belt tensioner somewhere on the belt, it usually works off the clutch/brake, when you push on the brake it apply's the brake and also takes the tension off the belt to stop it from moving.
Not sure of your ride on mower but that is how my ride on mower works so I hope this helps.

Why did Craftsman LT2000 stopped moving? Engine starts and blade engages fine.

The transmission drive belt is a separate one from the blade belt. The clutch pedal when released puts tension on the transmission drive belt so it tightens up and drives the gearbox pulley by way of a large spring. Make sure the spring is ok. The belts don't last forever and probably needs replacing looking at the age of the machine. That is a fun job as it is right up under the machine and runs from the engine pulley right back to the top of the transmission. You have to drop the deck right off and I usually find a tree with a large branch and haul the front up with a rope or winch so the mower is vertical. Makes it easier to work on. Drain petrol first though. Hope this helps otherwise get a mower shop to do it for you if you feel it's to much of a task. Good luck.

Craftsman riding mower won't move.

yes it is a bad belt unless it is a hydro-stat(no clutch) you need to look under the mower and see if the belt is on correctly

We have a 1 yr old Craftsman 24 HP lawn tractor Model #917.28870 that sounds fine, but BARELY moves forward. It does move in reverse a bit more easily. It feels like the parking brake is engaged when you...

It sounds like the brake plate is sticking on the transaxle,if you look on the right side of the transaxle a rod and spring run back from the front to a plate, under this plate are two 1/4 pins that actuate the brake pads on the disc, lubricate these pins with wd-40 and move the plate back and forth to see i this frees the problem up.
