My wave guide is terribly burnt. Can it be fixed or do I need a new microwave? Hisense- Model no: H25MOMS7H.

If your microwave's waveguide cover is severely burnt, it is generally recommended to replace it rather than repair it. The waveguide cover is designed to be transparent and protect the antenna or magnetron from food splatter and grease. To replace the cover, follow these steps:
1. Identify the replacement part number from your microwave's user manual or contact the manufacturer.
2. Order the part from the manufacturer, authorized dealers, or reputable appliance parts suppliers.
3. Turn off the microwave to ensure safety.
4. Remove the old waveguide cover and secure it using screws or clips.
5. Place the new waveguide cover in the same position and secure it using the appropriate screws or clips.
6. Test the microwave to ensure the new waveguide cover is in place and functioning correctly.
Replacement is crucial as a burnt or damaged waveguide can affect the microwave's performance and cause further damage to internal components. If you have any doubts or are uncomfortable with the replacement process, seek professional assistance or contact the manufacturer's customer support for guidance.

Is it dangerous to use the microwave without a duct cover

Yes, the waveguide (duct) cover protects the waveguide and the magnetron from damage caused by grease and food particles getting on them.

The waveguide cover (also called a spatter shield) is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the area is charred or chipped, the area will first have to be sanded smooth and cleaned and dried thoroughly.

If the cavity metal of the oven is cracked or split, you can use a small amount of steel-based epoxy such as JB-WELD to patch the crack or hole.

Once that dries thoroughly, you can sand it very smooth.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced.

It provides critical protection for the magnetron.

Microwave is 6 months old. clock won't light up. when i try to set cooking time the inside starts making a clicking sound and a light flashes in the top right inside

Sounds like the waveguide cover has been contaminated with food that has carbonised and burning.
Call a Whirlpool repair agent and get the waveguide cover replaced.
They need to be kept clean and leaving the door open after cooking helps to dry the moisture out in the cavity. Making it last longer.

Inside the microwave the piece of cardboard looking rectangle has fallen off. is this dangerous

Yes. This is the waveguide cover, and it needs to be there to protect the magnetron from damage.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet or held in a slotted opening.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

If your waveguide cover is burned or damaged, it will need to be replaced.

Louder than normal noise when using and bad 'burning' smell

You need to stop using your microwave if it's burning. This is a common symptom of a blown magnetron. Using it in it's current condition is not only dangerous, but it will further damage other components in the high voltage circuit and/or waveguide. In many circumstances, damaging the waveguide renders a microwave non-repairable. A new magnetron will cost you around $100 if you wish to repair this yourself. NOTE: I would not recommend working in or around the high voltage circuitry unless you absolutely know what you are doing. Do not attempt to take any live voltage measurements or operate the oven with any of the protective covers removed or interlocks defeated. Voltage potentials of over 13,000 volts exist and are potentially dangerous. I hope this helps you.

Runs but makes a super load pop sound with flame

It sounds like you're saying a flame and pop came out of the area where the internal electronics are? If that's the case, then I would suspect a failed high-voltage transformer, bad magnetron or that another high-voltage component is arcing, like maybe damaged wiring, but that's rare unless... ... I hate to suggest it, but maybe a "critter" has made his way into the high-voltage section! That can cause some really "interesting" effects! If the flame and pop are coming out of the cooking cavity, then it could be food debris or grease underneath the waveguide cover or in the waveguide. I would say the likliest cause is a failed HV transformer. If it's still under warranty, I'd call Sears right away to verify that. If it's not under warranty, you may want to pull it from the wall yourself and take it in to Sears or another shop yourself. You'll probably save about $50 as opposed to letting them come out to the home to service it.
