Web sites will require you to have installed various 'plug-ins' to play the inbedded videos and sound tracks:
The most 'common' plug-ins would be RealPlayer, Shockwave Flash and Adobe Flash Player (as used in Youtube).
You will normally be prompted to add the required plug-in for the site you are trying to view with a video or music: otherwise, google for the may download sites and pre-install the stated 3 plug-ins.
I hope the information is useful. Have fun!

When I play a video there is no sound, the volume on the computer and speakers work but not on youtube

Hello Sir
please try these steps.
If you are on one of those sites and you have a movie played, right click the movie and choose options. Flash player by Macromedia may have disables sound in flash which is basically what those sites you said use to play videos.
or
go to tools, internet option, advanced tab, scroll down to multimedia and put a tick in "play sounds in web pages"
