Question about Washing Machines

Kenmore washer 80 series model 20842990

Dear Tech Guru
My Kenmore washer overflowed the other day...Not sure at what point in cycle.
The only thing I noticed was the water level knob was just off the resting spot of the Medium load line....other than that it was just a usual load...Been watching it ever since and it seems fine. Could this be a fluke or should I not tempt the fates and raceout to get a new one. Purchased in 2000.. Small family use.
Thanks much
Elaine

Try eserviceinfo.com/index as per your 80 series. There are various downloads there that may help access the water level sensor which is most likely the problem.

Kenmore 80 series washer wont spin

Sounds to me like you may have a lid switch bad. If you close the lid and don't hear that click then you can be sure that you have a bad lid switch. If it is bad your machine is thinking that your lid is up and so it won't do any washing or spinning. Replace the lid switch.

Kenmore 80 series washer doesn't stop filling up with water

Almost went and bought a switch until I widened by search for "kenmore washer 80 series overflow" and came up with this:

Turns out that a couple weeks ago, I had a really unbalanced load that probably shook off the tubing. Anyhow, saved me a trip to the supply store AND cost. Thanks to the original poster!

Ok, it sounds either your hose from the water level pressure switch has come off or broke, or the pressure switch itself is bad.

Check the pressure switch hose first.

My tubing came loose and I just duct taped it back on and it works perfectly.

You would need to open your console as shown here:
http://www.applianceblog.com/mainfor...ead.php?t=1081
Pull forward and up on the console and you can hinge it open and hanging from the hinges.

Here is your water level pressure switch:

KENMORE SERIES 80 WASHER

There is three things on this machine that concern me. Last week I rebuilt a series 80 and it did the same thing, mostly on perm press. It turned out the timer was fine and the mechanical had not been rebuilt in years. Because of this the motor could not spin fast enough to fling the water plus the pump was leaking. I need three things from you. Is leaking water and oil when looking under the machine, does the motor hum loud even when functioning normally and when its spinning lift the lid, is it still rotating after a quick count to 7? Drop me a line I would like to help.
