Hello- On modern gas cooktops and ranges when you turn on one burner ALL the burners will click, spark, until that burner is lit. I would ask if the other burners are lighting ok or do you have to use a match? Do you smell gas when all the burners are OFF? Feel free to reply and if you could provide the Model number of the unit that would be helpful. Best regards.

Why want middle burner light automatically but will light with a lighter

That unit is suppose to have electronic quartz igniters. Apparently there's a problem but it doesn't automatically mean the igniter needs to be replaced. If you see a spark from the igniter then it's fine. If you see a spark but no flame then the ignition process is out of synchronization. In other words, the gas hasn't concentrated near the spark enough to ignite. This may be a matter of low gas pressure or the extra length the gas needs to flow to reach the center burner is impeding ignition. Simple fix is turn the knob just enough to start the gas for 2 seconds then continue the turn to click the igniter. or simply use a match. You may also see if there are any adjustments on the gas manifold that will enhance bringing more gas to the center burner quicker. Some unit have one click & that's it, others click the igniter continuously until you release turning the knob. Good luck. you'll figure it out.

The igniter will click on all the burners simultaneously no matter which burner knob is on. This is normal.

My GE Monogram gas range will not light. The igniter keeps going off but the gas will not light.

Hi, sometimes cooking spills stop the ignitor from working. Clean the cook top thoroughly and try it again. Spills can also make the ignitor go off randomly when you are not operating your cooker. Check if the ignition point where the zap comes from is not turned or bent too far from its original position. If you have a gas shut off make sure it is fully open to supply enough gas. If all else fails buy a cheap hand held ignitor to start your gas stove. If the cause is a spill which sometimes the problem can persist even after cleaning it may take a while for it to work again. If the problem is with all six burners then your ignitor probably needs replacing. When you hear the ignitor zap check to see if the electronic zap appears to jump across to the edge of the burner. If it doesn't it will not light the flame no matter how many times you try. I hope this helps you.

Constant clicking noise on one burner. Even when dial is turned off.

Sounds to me like you have an igniter that has gone out on you. It's possible that you could have a sensor on your pilot light as well, and actually have a gas issue. Make sure the pilot light is on, and try to localize where the clicking is coming from. You may think it's coming from a certain burner, when in fact, it is coming from somewhere else all together. The ignition source is a pretty easy fix in general, so if you are sure that is where it is coming from, simply go to sears, or any other store that might sell one for your particular brand of stove, and replace it. You'll soon be hearing the sweet sounds of deafening silence. :)

Gas was turned off and igniters keep clicking?

As I did not see what occurred, I suspect that the tea kettle boiled over and sent water into the burners. The igniters kept clicking and I eventually turned the gas back on. Will have to replace one igniter which apparently went out and have to light it manually at this point.

All cook top burners spark when any is turned on

OK, the best action is to call for service, if the unit was just installed, and purchased. This unit should be covered at this time, by the manufactures warranty, or store 30 day warranty. This repair should be free. The culprit will be a faulty spark ignition switch, and module. Testing is required. Once this switch, or(module), is replaced, the unit will operate correctly.

Cooktop burner problem

Your plumber should know that the pipe service your cooker must be of a suitable size. Normal half inch pipe is only good for a couple of small burners. Most installations require one inch! There is a simple formulae for working out the flow rate of the gas. Your gas installer will know it.

Electronic ignition

Most likely you got water (or some other liquid) into the control knobs. Unplug, go to bed and try it again in the morning. If you continue to futz with it, you run the chance of burning out the electronics in the control knob, like I did. :(
