Hello

OK, if the drive does not spin up at all, or you noitice that there is no power to the case, you are out of luck.

This means that your Circuit board on the HDD have blown.

Sorry.

Kind regards
Andrea

Computer won't recognize external usb hard drive

try it on another computer if that dosent work you should
reformat your computer but first backup all your data by putting your another internal hardrive on your computer and move all your files you need to the empty hardrive and after that take the hardrive with all your stuff in it off the computer and then reformat the hardrive which the external hardrive does not work on and install a new operating system then put the other hardrive with all your stuff back on your computer and transfer your stuff into the hardrive with a operating system then try the external hardrive

OR
you can burn all your stuff into a CD or a DVD
OR
you can put all your stuff into FlashDrives and then after you reformat the hardrive with an operating system put your stuff back into the computer and after that the external hardrive should work

Hi my blue light for the external hardrive turns on all the time but my computer just wont detect it does this mean that my hardrive doesn' work anymore? is there anyway i can all my files...

Usually this means that your controller board on the external drive is broken. There is a good change that you can get your files back. If there is important stuff on the hard drive, you should let someone who knows what he/she is doing help you.
Basically you open the casing of the hard drive, and you should see a green controlled board and a standard IDE or Sata hard drive, you can blug that to a desktop computer and use it as a normal hard drive. There is a change that the files are a bit corrupted and/or the hard drive being unstable, so you might want to take an image of the disk, using Norton ghost for example, so that you can try to safely repair the file system with out causing any more damage to the files. That way you get most of your files back.

My passport 500gb external just stopped working. It froze up so I removed it and plugged it back in. When I plugged it back into my computer it starts spinning but then makes a click sound and stops.

The clicking sound is caused by the spindle inside the hardrive, because it was not removed properly. Just connect you external hardrive to your computer, if it makes the clicking sound again dont remove it yet, just restart your computer properly. In that way all the devices connected to the computer will be refreshed and properly shut down. If it is not detected still, unplug the haardrive then try another USB port. Recommended ports are at the back of the CPU if your using a desktop. These USB ports have higher voltage output that can power up all external hardrives properly.

I dont understand how to hook up my old hardrive to the sabrent hardrive enclosure

Open the enclosure, plug the IDE cable into the back of the hard drive. Plug the power connector into the back of the hard drive. Mount the hard drive with the included fasteners. Close the enclosure, Plug in the power supply to the wall. Turn on the external drive. Plug in the USB cable to your computer. Browse your files.

My digital western external hardrive wont switch on..please help!

warrenty will be void if you open the casing
but warrenty for hdd will remain .. so if under warrenty get it replaced, as it is, if data required the warrenty should not be concidered and data recovered, probably the hard drive may not have got damaged , so dont get fooled if some one says data recovery . if you cannot do it hire an expert guru for data recovery.

Seagate external hardrive

Try to plug it into more than 1 computer other than your PC. If it works, then the problem is the interface between the hard drive and your computer and if it really doesn't work, you're solution is have it recover by data recovery experts. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind, on taking your first steps in such a situation: Do not open the hard disk and try to repair it on your own. If you're data is really, very valuable, don't use automatic data recovery tools. Before you bring it, wrap the defective units in anti-static envelope if possible, bubble wrap it, and seal package securely. You also had an option to recover it on your own by using known data recovery software but it's risky compared if you bring it to a data recovery experts. If the problem is within the mechanical parts of a hard drive, there's a possibility that you will not attain a 98% chance of recovery if you do it on your own.
