Question about PC Desktops

I have just upgraded to AVG 8.0 Free Trial. The internet has become very slow. I then proceeded to download the recomended update KB929547 which then tells me it does not apply after trying both 32 Bit or 64 Bit. But my Internet is still very slow at opening applications. I'm not the smartest with computers but I am doing my best to resolve this and would gratly appreciate the help. Oh also the KB929547 update refers to - after installing windows filtering platform. Not sure! any suggestions. Owen Harvey. owen.harvey@hotmail.com

Press cntrl, alt delete, then Processes tab. What is in there? Make a list. Everything that says System is sacred. Look at bottom of window to see what your CPU memory usage is. WIth the mouse still, it should be c lose to zero. Select Perfromance tab. What is going on there? with your mouse at rest, it should be near zero as well. Click Start, then in the r un bar type "Sysconfig" and print a copy. Need more info.

Make sure you have uninstalled any other antivirus software from the computer. Some PC''s come with Norton or McAfee pre-installed. You can go to the Control Panel, and to "Add or Remove Programs" to see if there is any other protection software you may have missed.

Try to scan it for malware or viruses. Run combofix:

For virus scan, boot to avg rescue cd/usb flash:

Then fix it using Windows Repair All in One:

Also, try updating your drivers particularly the video.

Uninstall or disable any unnecessary program that loads at startup.

Use ccleaner, to clean up disk space and registry.

Problems with my pc

Hi Christopher,
The problem you describe is most certainly a spyware infection on your PC.
Firstly make sure you have a good anti-virus program installed on your pc.
You can download AVG antivirus for free by clicking on the link below:

http://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=avg&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CEoQjBAwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffree.avg.com%2Fus-en%2Fdownload&ei=XxoPT8a8IqXQmAXWmajhAw&usg=AFQjCNF_OvnwrSpXtAdHA34xR79U7KqiGg&sig2=89OH_xygGZRJf5_0dpfKdg&cad=rja

Once downloaded and installed allow AVG to do download any updates from the internet. After all updates are completed Run a full system scan to remove viruses and spyware on your PC.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

What's wrong with your PC when the internet explorer is not responding?

Typically a virus or malicious software infection.

Update your antivirus software, scan for viruses and remove any you find. (E.g. AVG Free Edition or Microsoft Security Essentials).

Then update your antimalware program and scan for malicious software and remove it. (E.g. Malwarebytes.org)

If you do not have programs to on your computer to perform these tasks then use the free ones I recommended above. You will probably have to use a working computer to download the files and a USB drive to copy them to your computer.

Lastly, upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 and use the Reset option to clear it of any old settings or add-ons. (Reset is explained in IE help.)

If I lost you then you need to take it to an expert. It is best not to take chances when it comes to computer security.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Good luck!

I need to restore my computer so I can get online to get antiviru

download AVG on someone elses computer, put it on a disk. uninstall your old antivirus and install AVG. AVG is free and very good. (google AVG).
If your computer is not online, you are not exposed to much malicious software. I certainly thing restoring your computer will do nothing to reactivate your old antivirus.

I downloaded avg free yesterday and its saying its out of date and will not let me upgrade it. Ive tried everything. Can you help me please

Did you download it directly from the AVG site? If not, it's possible you downloaded an archived version from a 3rd party site that doesn't have the latest updates. The latest version of AVG Free (available via this link) is 8.0.173 (October 1st).

Hope this helps :)

My acer aspire 3694 wlmi is really slow. i have got very little stored so dont know why

you may need to give it a system clean up, go to the link below for CCleaner, it's free, no spyware and free updates.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

You may also need click on the startup section in ccleaner menu and remove any programmes you don't need to run on startup, and you may also have a virus or spyware, if you don't have antivirus programme, install AVG 8 free Edition from the link below, again free and no spyware, free updates and run it.

I got free norton trial with new laptop, about to expire so yesterday I ordered,as recomended, extended download service, norton internet security subscription and norton SystemWorks basic edition upgrade....

Chances are, the software that is already in your computer will be able to connect to its website and after entering an authorization code provided to you when you ordered it, the software should update itself. Otherwise, contact Norton's website directly.

My compaq presario laptop has become extremely slow...help!

You probably have contracted a virus or some shareware. Download free AVG and do a scan. If you have certain norton / symantec products I have known these to slow down things. You could try it in safe mode and see if the speed there is more normal. Check all your drivers and update them.

please rate my assistance - I hope this is useful.
